what a heavy movie. Faye Dunaway was terrific. 10/10

The first shot of Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford blew me away! Unless the parties are face to face, there are three sides to a story: party A's side, party B's side and the truth. Crawford is dead, so we'll never know. All in all, I enjoyed the film.

My goal was to enjoy this classic camp-fest, and the first half hour delivers, from Joan's white-gloved hand reaching toward the alarm clock to her first full face gaze into the camera. Thereafter, it was just painful to watch. If even some of Joan Crawford's behavior - and not just toward the two older children - is accurately portrayed (and many people have confirmed that it is), the poor woman was deeply emotionally disturbed and self-medicated with alcohol, obsessive cleaning, and ever more public acting out. So while this film has merits on several levels, a better, imho, view of a destructive mother-child relationship is depicted in the Oscar winning 'Ordinary People, which illustrates how even subtle behavior can injure a child. 3/5

I think its really hard to judge when you only have one side of the story told. Its easy to watch this and think joan crawford was some kind of monster but there was obviously a lot going on here and we'll never know the full truth. Interesting film but I won't take it as a full and frank account of what went on I don't think. Resentment can breed lies!

This was such a fantastic movie. The story of Joan Crawford that no one knew. Only those close to her knew her well and stuck with her throughout her rise and fall. The resentment in the eyes of those children while reading her will poses the question of did she really love them. Only they will know. Faye Dunaway is sensational in her role as the beloved Joan. The scene in the flower garden where she just lost it in that couture dress was priceless. Do you get dressed to ruin your garden like that? Only someone out of their mind would do something like that. The movie is brilliant. I don't know if those are the real accounts because I haven't read the book. But the movie is really good and well acted. 5/5

This is one of the greatest biographical movies I have ever seen, I mean it was really captivating, funny but horrifying at the same time, it makes me feel bad for both the daughter and mother. I liked the ''does she'' quote at the end of the movie, because in the end the daughter got the last word because of this movie. 10/10 (this was my first time seeing the movie too)

Movie misses out the fact that Joan had been fed uppers and downers by the movie studio to enable her to work such long hours for quite a while before the story even began. This explained a great deal of the stress and emotional unbalance. I don't think of her as a monster and the ending clearly implies that the book was written to make money. We only have one side of this story. Yes Joan did have a disturbed childhood as well, but that also isn't in the film.

You can see that fate had arranged it so that she would never be a mother. She could not have children. That was for a reason. Yet she thwarted fate and look at the disastrous results. She was too dynamic to be a mom. That requires patience, understanding, love. She did not have that to temper her hard-nosed disciplinary nature. Some people should not have children.

I've loved this Movie since I was...well,since I was a kid.:-)I cant count how many times i've already seen it! It's sad,and again,Sooo Glamorous! I used to play around and call my Mom, "Mommy Dearest". My Mother was'nt to fond of that, but played along, and called me "Daughter Dearest".We had our laughs! And she too, like "jokerewto4" mom said, if u call me "Mommy Dearest",then that means I can beat u with a wire hanger, ofcourse she did'nt do that either...And "Joan" YOU were soooo Mean! Yuck!

Faye Dunaway was outstanding as Joan Crawford. This movie gave me the chills and scared me as a kid. This will always be a classic and J.C. remembered as being so abusive. Timeless movie.
