love this show. fingers crossed their is a season 2 after that finale.
Hakuna matata. It was renewed last September.
the delivery of their lines is rushed as well..almost feels like they wanted a laugh track ..
Y’know, I’m kinda surprised they didn’t add a laugh track. This is that caliber of show.
Same guys who did horrible histories and yonderland, which are both great, yonderland for me especially. They are the closest thing there is to Monty Python, love everything this crew does and this is no exception.
They did the UK version of the show Ghosts, too. That’s why I decided to watch it. 100% agree about the Monty Python comment! A shame the troupe doesn’t have a witty moniker like Monty Python, Kids in the Hall, Broken Lizard or The Upright Citizens Brigade cuz then we could just say, “It’s (those guys).” lol Good comedy, clever costumes, the characters each play many parts flexing their skills and it strikes a good balance between deadpan humor and outright silliness.
It was a tv movie. Did you expect ROOTS?
The version of Salem’s Lot with Rob Lowe and Donald Sutherland was a made-for-TV movie and it was flipping awesome. You never know.
I didn’t even know this movie existed. It must have gone straight to video. Unfortunate, I love Tim Curry, I considered watching it just for him but your comment has dissuaded me.
Yeah, I’m deeply saddened by this. Tim Curry and Daryl Hannah from Kill Bill as Morticia and Gomez could’ve been interesting.
This show is losing me. In Pennsylvania if you are stabbed by someone twice and beat him to death with a piece of wood the sheriff pats you on the back and says, “Good job.” We have no duty to retreat. It’s like the writer of this story wants to put the main character in jail but doesn’t know how jail works.
Props to the creators. Like Hemlock Grove and Banshee, this allegedly takes place in Pennsylvania (Mawinhaken ain’t a real place, but it’s a real Lenni Lenape phrase that means “go to war” which places the town on the NJ/Delaware side of PA or in the Yough River Valley on the other side of the Allegheny plateau). But, being SYFY, it was filmed in Canada. They had the foresight to put faux PA plates on the cars. Like the town’s clever name, that’s good attention to detail. It’s a million little things like that that make a show good. Can’t tell you how many things I watched over the years that were set in Ohio or Indiana or wherever and the place had palm trees, never snowed, local stores/franchises were wrong, & cet—oh, and California plates on all the cars. lol
Phenomenal cast. I have really high hopes for this.
If it’s 1/2 as good as his 1977 period drama, The Duellists, it’ll be 2X as good as anything else out right now. Ridley Scott’s passion projects are always amazing. And I agree, this is quite an ensemble cast.
Why is it in Japanese with English subtitles?
They hired a Japanese director to make it and used the voice cast from Japan to dub it. Think of it as a love letter to the anime genre. Or think of it as a corny marketing strategy. Either way, you aren’t wrong. lol
For anyone interested who might be out of the loop, there’s 3 more just like this (only not as long) on Adult Swim’s YouTube. They’re called, “Samurai & Shogun,” “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider,” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).” The Genocider episode was pretty sweet.
This is episode 1 & 2, so if you’ve watched the first one, you’ve already seen this one as well.
Thanks for pointing that out. I was really confused!
Everything everyone else said rings true. Additionally, the plot of the pilot seemed hurried, like they were trying to get through as much story as fast as possible. Hopefully this finds its legs, diverges from the BBC version (this wasn’t a 1:1 of the BBC pilot’s plot but pretty close!). I want to like this.
The pilot episodes of the British and American versions of “The Office” are nearly identical too, of course, that show diverged A LOT from the original after the pilot so one really remembers the near word-for-word pilot.
America’s The Office really grew into its own thing. I’m hoping that’s the case with this.
Earth [insert number here] story. Their version of “What If…”
It’s Earth #1. Yours is #26. 😅
Yup and now finally James Bond 007 is finally back where HE belongs which is up and on the big cinema screens and long may he reign.
Well, many returns to James Bond, whoever might wear the moniker. This is the 3rd time that Craig swore before God and Country this was his last outing. lol He hates the job, hates getting paid Robert Downey, Jr. money to do something most of us would do for free, hates us loving him… Some say Tom Hardy or Idris Elba may be next for the role. Whoever it is, I’ll stay tuned. I can count the “bad” Bond films on 3 fingers (and Craig was not in any of them, down with the detractors!). Pretty good for a run of 25.
Yes finally after what feels like years of waiting No Time To Die is finally mother freaking here.
It was years. 😋 Filming was supposed to begin in December of 2018, got delayed `til April of 2019. Then the End of the World happened.
Well this episode was a little more interesting than the last. Hopefully this show’s going somewhere not that I’m invested.
An American version of this is to be released next week. By the looks of the trailer, it’s the same story only not in the U.K.https://www.primewire.li/tv/1338175-watch-ghosts
Started watching this in anticipation of that. Hopefully it’s as fun as this and hopefully it’s not just a 1:1 carbon copy. I see they kept a lot of the same characters in the US version, looking at the trailer.
We vote it down because you don’t get to bring up Dawson’s Creek and expect to be take seriously…in the real world.
But this isn’t the Real World. It’s not even MTV! 😂😂😂
I’ll give it three episodes before deciding to toss it but judging from the pilot this is going to be another one of those poorly written soap operas masquerading as a “crime” series glossed over by a semi-decent cast. Like Mare of East Town it felt like a White Trash version of Dawson’s Creek right away; they even threw in another struggling/confused teenager story line (this one has a mullett) to draw in the 20 something Netflix crowd. How original.
Negative 2 points. Wow. And you ain’t even wrong. I don’t know how much I’m gonna be watching of this show, either.
Yep. This is Fayette County alright. lol For anyone watching around the country (or around the world) this is a pretty accurate depiction of this benighted area.
Remember the evil bully kid in the coonskin cap from A Christmas Story? He’s in this, all grown up, a Son of Anarchy. And his girlfriend is Harley Quinn. What a canned ham of a movie. I hope Bruce Willis is okay, I’m starting to worry. He’s been playing 2nd fiddle in these Direct-To-DVD jobs for about a decade now. And in this one they were using him like a stage prop the way they do with wheelchair-bound John Aniston on that one soap opera.
Are they doing more episodes?
This story’s reached its end but this is the 4th series (1st on Netflix, though). So, if you haven’t seen, there’s more to watch. https://www.primewire.ag/?s=cocaine+cowboys&links=With+Links&t=y&m=m&w=q
Sir Christopher Lee actually did have an extensive music career. He put out 4 full length albums, 3 EPs, 4 singles and appeared as a guest on 21 various albums and OSTs. He loved heavy metal. 2 of the albums he released were symphonic metal concept albums about the life and times of Charlemagne. He worked quite a bit with symphonic/power metal band Rhapsody of Fire and, perhaps the most famous of all power metal bands, Manowar. 2 of his 3 EPs were heavy metal Christmas albums. In 2013 his single “Jingle Hell” made 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. He was the oldest person to ever have a Top 20 hit. I marked this as a spoiler so as not to ruin the surprise of Elvira’s facetious exit monologue. 😉
Eh, it was better than the Deadwood movie.
Four people who aren’t Christopher Nolan get together and make a film by Christopher Nolan.
Marky Mark stabs a plane with a samurai sword
That’s really all you need to know about this movie.
Good catch irdulili,i never would have caught that until i read you comment, nice alertness to detail,
It’s funny what you see with westerns sometimes. I have a box set of old John Wayne films I got at Walmart for, like, $11 or something. For the cover art they took a still of Wayne from one of his films, all duded out, and they photoshopped in an arm holding a revolver. The problem is that the revolver is a Colt Python made in the 1980s chambered in .357 Magnum. lol
Love this show. Who do you think would win in a Deathbattle? The Crypt Keeper or Creepshow Ghoul?
Same guy, basically. The inspiration for both characters (and both shows) was an old comic series called The Vault of Horror as well as another called Tales from the Crypt. You’ll note in the credits for the HBO TV series, Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror was often cited as parent material. Originally The “Vault Keeper” was very different looking. In his incarnation on Creepshow he is now ghoulish, a la the Cryptkeeper. He’s now an amalgam of the two and the only vestige of the original character is the green hood. And the original Creepshow movie (written by Stephen King, directed by George Romero and inspired by VoH and TftC) were adapted into comics along with some other short stories (like Children of the Corn) through the 80s. The comics’ title? Creepshow.
hard to believe it’s been 40 years, now a really feel old
Also, Cassandra Peterson is SEVENTY YEARS OLD now. I’m starting to believe she really is a vampire. lol
Simple, yes, but also suspiciously silly. I’d think about moving from that building, in that case.Perhaps they could start investigating murders in other buildings
They don’t necessarily need to die IN the building. Someone could drop dead on the sidewalk by the front doors or something along those lines. Murders in other buildings is another route they could go. An acquaintance could call one of them, panicked, “Someone just died in my building and it’s a little sus.” But, just in case, don’t rule out “Suspiciously silly,” because we’re talking about 2/3 of the Three Amigos here.
If you’re watching with headphones, do yourself a favor: Turn the volume down real far before you press play and adjust it after the video starts. There are some uncomfortable sound effects in this episode.
Very interestingly done episode!I wonder, though, how they can pull off a second season.
Simple. Somebody else dies.
Wish people would just portray them honestly… The name doesn’t help, but I get why they use it.
That said, the show seems to be going in the direction of actually making the supernatural stuff real, whereas the first season was much more ambiguous (if not outright portraying it as not being real). Not sure how I feel about that decision.
Not just that but the plot is really starting to come together. They’re really hinting at a bigger conspiracy. I just hope there’s some payoff. If they just tease us until the show inevitably gets cancelled, I’ll be sad.
I’m not through it yet, but so far I’m kind of annoyed by how they’re portraying The Satanic Temple (though using a different name for obvious reasons). The real Satanic Temple doesn’t believe in an actual deity called Satan. They are non-theistic. They troll evangelical Christians for their hypocrisy and to highlight their political interference (something a tax exempt religion isn’t supposed to do). It’s not about selling t-shirts, nor is it about literally believing in the Biblical Satan (or any form of it).
Exactly. Lucien is a public figure so he’s open to parody and can’t really sue for libel—and they made sure the Baphomet in the episode looked nothing like the REAL Baphomet statue (CBSViacom must’ve learnedfrom Netflix’s mistake)—but still… This is a really low blow that all but ruins a really great episode.
That was an interesting episode—genuinely, a good episode. I can’t help but wonder what Lucien Greaves will think if (when?) he sees it, though.
That was the most interesting episode of this series yet!
I couldn’t put my finger on who it was till I read the comments. He was really good in this episode. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
It took me a minute or two.
It was something familar but I couldn’t place it anywhere. Nice little easter egg.
I guess this is the kind of cool stuff we can expect from Taika Waititi. He’s a mad genius.
Buckle your seatbelts Ladies and Germs, it’s an Elora Danan (yes, like the baby from “Willow”) centric episode!
I never made that connection before. I should be ashamed of myself.
Bill Burr!!! ❤❤❤
Not a bad western! Nice to see people still making them—it’s a dying art. My only criticism (and I bet most wouldn’t even catch it) is they prolly shoulda removed the Ruger phoenix medallion from the marshal’s buscadero. Sturm Ruger & Co. didn’t come into being `til 1949. 😂 I’ve seen worse sins in period dramas, though.
The “civil rights” bit is exceptionally confusing. I don’t know what decade homey is talking about, but it sounds more like the 60’s/70’s than the 90’s.
“April 29, 1992. There was a riot on the streets. Tell me, where were you?” Civil Rights have been an issue for every decade since the Civil War. It’s 2 steps forward, 1 step back. In the 90s cops used a technique called “profiling” where, basically, if you looked a certain way you would get stopped for a fishing expedition. And if they didn’t find anything, they’d antagonize you until you lost your temper, rough you up, toss you in a cell and drag you in front of the magistrate the next day. Things eventually reached a boiling point. Rodney King, a dude who was too drunk to be driving, led police on a high speed chase for a good minute before they stopped him, dragged him bodily from his car and took turns beating on him for 10 minutes. Someone happened to video tape it and the result was a firestorm in Los Angeles. Ice Cube said, in his song called “Wicked” we’d see a sequel to April 29th. And we sure did.
This absolutely made up for that mid-season slump and then some.
Considering Adult Swim was involved in the production of this, I’m floored. This is a Studio Ghibli quality series. Absolutely outta left field.
Excellent documentary! If you have read the book, “Lords of Chaos,” or plan on watching the Jonas Akerlund film (also called “Lords of Chaos”) you should watch this.
As an adolescent/teen, I loved buying movies like this from the local video store. I had a huge cardboard box of them. If you take this for what it is, it’s an enjoyable film with quite a bit of depth. For a start, I had to change my monitor’s resolution because this is a direct from VHS rip somewhere between 320p and 400p. The native resolution doesn’t scale up. Secondly, this was obviously a B film, maybe a student film, and the possibility of “good” actors was out of reach financially. But the writer/director made due and told a fairly intricate story. My only real criticism is that it wasn’t 20 minutes longer. Things started to get really interesting story-wise and then it ended 10 minutes later. A bit too much is left to the imagination. Another student filmmaker, inspired by this, remade the movie in 2007. I’ll have to see if I can find it. Primewire doesn’t have it (yet).
If Hunter S. Thompson was still alive, he’d prolly (literally) shoot someone (not kidding) after he saw this. This is worse than The Rum Diaries. Who even allowed this? His son, Juan? I doubt it, this is just bad. I’m not sure if this movie is lazy or just dumb. There are better ways to make a buck than exploiting the legend of a dead man. The sad thing is the guy they got for the lead isn’t bad, he coulda pulled it off, his voice is even right, but the director obviously saw a few Johnny Depp movies and had ideas about things that weren’t right. People need to separate Hunter S. Thompson from the character, Raoul Duke, he created for Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. People need to acquaint themselves with the legal fiction of “SWIM (Someone Who Isn’t Me)” in order to really get it. And for those who want to know who this man really was, he wrote more than just Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Read his stuff, there’s lots of it, check out his interview videos. He was a paradox, he was far from perfect, he was violent and digressionary but he was an idealist who always thought things could be better. Like this movie. This movie could be so much better.
TY for the heads up !
It’s a remake of a remake of an anime based on a manga but it’s pretty spiffy.
This show is up there with Twin Peaks in terms of craziness. I enjoyed just about every second of it.
I'm so happy to find this (and that it's currently running!!). I started the books recentl...
Oh I didn't know he was involved! That's brilliant, thank you!
Renard Chasefield :
THIS SHOW JUST GOT SERISOULY EPIC! \m/
hopefully we will get new links that are the right show
Fair enough :-D
I read on a site dated Oct 5th, 2021 that it's probably getting dropped sometime in 2022. ...
the delivery of their lines is rushed as well..almost feels like they wanted a laugh track...
So, what? It's entertainment.
Brody is hard to look at, too. :)
His loss. This series had me completely enthralled.
love this show. fingers crossed their is a season 2 after that finale.
