THIS version of THE THING is the BEST of all. Period. Not up for discussion. The tense atmosphere, the constant build up of tension and horror and paranoia is awesome. One of the all time classic sci-fi/horror movies ever made. Carpenter's best imho.

John Carpenter's version of The Thing is one of the scariest science fiction films dealing with space aliens that I have ever seen. The story itself is creepy enough but Carpenter's vision created a memorable horror film out of the story. The first thing that one notices is the element of icy isolation. The group of scientists are in the cold desolation of the Antarctic and loose contact with the civilized world. - That in itself is enough to scare the daylights out of most people. The second thing is the thing. An alien life-form that cannot be seen, is not ghost-like, yet it's presence is well known. The third thing is the suspense and mystery. A mystery of how the creature lives and survives. And the suspense of who is human and who is The Thing! This is a long time film favorite of mine and I do recommend it for those that love aliens stories mixed with horror. On a personal note: I when I look at spiders I sometimes think of this film - the character of Vance Norris (Charles Hallahan). 10/10

I've seen this movie at least 50 times, and it never ever gets old. Probably my favorite sci fi movie of all time, and its just amazing. Kurt Russell is just nothing but perfection, and it has a star studded cast to boot. The graphics are AMAZING for a 1980s film, and it definitely still holds up to todays standards. From start to the amazing finish it is one heck of a ride. The musical score is nothing to be trifled with, and the dialog...oh the dialog..is just impeccable. Kurt Russell's unforgettable speech is something that will haunt my dreams forever. 10/10 Stars

I remember skipping school(not for the first time lol) with my friends to watch this movie when it was first released and i was not dissapointed,John Carpenter rarely fails to deliver and this re-make of the 50's sci/fi flick "The Thing From Another World" is no exception.Younger viewers, spoilt by todays CGI might find the special effects a little basic but in it's day the creature effects were groundbreaking, which combined with Carpenters masterly handleing of the tension provided by Russell and Co makes this a must watch for all sci/fi fans,10/10.

Fuck the prequel, this film is amazing. Quite possibly the best horror/sci-fi film ever made. The FX are far better than the CGI crap you see these days. Great cast, the best movie monster ever made, great atmosphere, a perfect score and an ending that really does the film justice. A fucking masterpiece. 10/10.

Why in the hell can't they make movies like this any more? This is a perfect example of why I think 80's horror movies feel more "real" than a lot of the newer stuff. Digital effects, while they can look real, at the same time they still look like digital effects. There are no digital effects in this, it's all on screen. And it tops a lot of the stuff they do now.

Who goes there? The greatest most intense sci-fi horror film ever made. The cinematography in this is amazing. It has one of the best original scores ever. The entire cast gives amazing performances. It has as much psychological horror as gore from the tangible isolation, paranoia & visceral creepiness that Carpenter created so beautifully in it. & 90% of the makeup & special effects in this can still stand up against the computer generated effects of today. The Thing is in my top 10 of greatest films of all time.

An excellent sci/fi flick from John Carpenter which is actually a remake of an old 50's movie, the special effects in this movie were ahead of their time and still stand up today,10/10.

This was awesome, I enjoyed it a lot more than the new one. It had a nice raw feel to it, and the effects were "corny" but so 80's you just can't say no. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves old Sci-Fi Horror films. Even if you don't, it's still an amazing watch!

This film is far superior than that garbage prequel that came out in 2011. It's one of the best Horror/Sci-Fi films of all time, easy. It surpasses the original as well. @DebbieLegg - That is exactly what is killing films these days...CGI.

This is one of the best Sci-Fi/Horror films of all time, as well as probably being the best remake to ever get made. A DVD collection is not complete without it. 10/10.
