An excellent sci/fi flick from John Carpenter which is actually a remake of an old 50's movie, the special effects in this movie were ahead of their time and still stand up today,10/10.

I remember skipping school(not for the first time lol) with my friends to watch this movie when it was first released and i was not dissapointed,John Carpenter rarely fails to deliver and this re-make of the 50's sci/fi flick "The Thing From Another World" is no exception.Younger viewers, spoilt by todays CGI might find the special effects a little basic but in it's day the creature effects were groundbreaking, which combined with Carpenters masterly handleing of the tension provided by Russell and Co makes this a must watch for all sci/fi fans,10/10.

Fuck the prequel, this film is amazing. Quite possibly the best horror/sci-fi film ever made. The FX are far better than the CGI crap you see these days. Great cast, the best movie monster ever made, great atmosphere, a perfect score and an ending that really does the film justice. A fucking masterpiece. 10/10.

THIS version of THE THING is the BEST of all. Period. Not up for discussion. The tense atmosphere, the constant build up of tension and horror and paranoia is awesome. One of the all time classic sci-fi/horror movies ever made. Carpenter's best imho.

I've seen this movie at least 50 times, and it never ever gets old. Probably my favorite sci fi movie of all time, and its just amazing. Kurt Russell is just nothing but perfection, and it has a star studded cast to boot. The graphics are AMAZING for a 1980s film, and it definitely still holds up to todays standards. From start to the amazing finish it is one heck of a ride. The musical score is nothing to be trifled with, and the dialog...oh the dialog..is just impeccable. Kurt Russell's unforgettable speech is something that will haunt my dreams forever. 10/10 Stars

This film is far superior than that garbage prequel that came out in 2011. It's one of the best Horror/Sci-Fi films of all time, easy. It surpasses the original as well. @DebbieLegg - That is exactly what is killing films these days...CGI.

I saw the prequel yesterday and it was amazing. Just as good as this remake IMO. Whoever the director was really did his homework with the new one and got EVERYTHING right. Every little detail, and on top of that he created his own terrifying and compelling story about how the events lead up to this movie while staying true in its spirit and making references to it. I really have to give it up the the director of the new movie, its rare hollywood releases prequels/ remakes that are this well done. If you haven't seen it yet you need to see it. Then come back home and watch this one, and it will pick up when the new one left off. And of course John Carpenters The Thing is a horror classic so if you haven't seen this movie you really need to do yourself a favor and see it. It still hold up its scare value even to this day. 10/10

This is one of the best Sci-Fi/Horror films of all time, as well as probably being the best remake to ever get made. A DVD collection is not complete without it. 10/10.

I remember freaking out the first time I saw this movie on VHS. The props they used are some of the craziest shit I've ever seen, even today. Way better than special effect used in the "prequel". This was also on the first movies I've seen as a young person, where the hero's don't make it out alive(technically they do, but they won't last).

Someone in the movie makes a reference to 'Chariots of the Gods' the book that also partly inspired Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Really into all this ancient alien stuff. Movie was good, very atmospheric. 7/10

The only 80s sci-fi movie I've ever seen and liked, and one of the top sci-fi movies I've ever seen and liked from any time period. I loved the acting, the actors, and the ending was cool without being corny. This is wayyyyyy better than that crappy remake.

This movie doesn't have the same level of CGI and FX that viewers expect these days but this movie actually scared me shitless when I first saw it back in the 80s.

just the right amount of paranoia, gore, action, sci-fi, and a ridiculous amount of testosterone. almost no typical horror film cliches. i loved it! better than any scary movie today!
