as an ex british squadie ,i find this film, unpalatable, the stop loss rule is a fucking disgrace to any man or woman who has volantrialy put on a uniform. i joined because all i ever wanted was to be a career soldier,it was my dream, from a young age,and for me it worked, but to give up 6 years for your country, win medals for bravery, and then suddenly the hell is coming to an end,and because your good, because you survived because your the best, your forced to go back for 11 years, its such an abomination of your human and constitutional rights, this was brilliantly portrayed by 3 fine actors, all i can say is im glad im british, though im a closet yank,i love country music, your freedoms and right to bear arms, everything,is superior, except this shit, great thought provoking film 10/10

great film, sad to see the the goverment can just suck you back in when they want, even if you have something waiting for you when you get out, they just seen you as another dissbosable asset.

The first time i watched this film, it kinda rubbed me the wrong way but after a second, not so much. By the time I got home in '05 this was just starting to go full swing but as far as I know, they weren't doing it to Guard troops. Not sure what my reaction would have been had they at the time. Knowing me now, I would have gone back, that's the me of today, but fresh off that bus in 2005 who knows. The only thing I do know is that when this thought comes up, I always think about the guys who served in WWI and WWII. A lot of those guys were in it 'til it was over. Sometimes they were there for 3+ years. Africa, Italy, France, Germany and than the big boat home. AND They couldn't even get a 30 day leave to go home, if they were lucky, they could get to England. So, in some sense, it could be worse. Still a good film tho. 4/5****

It isn't the governments that are to blame; it's the money behind the governments. $315 billion was spent on munitions in 2006 so without war or the threat of war, those businesses would have suffered. You have to ask yourself who benefits from war and the answer will always be those that profit from it. These profiteers put the governments into power, but he who pays the piper calls the tune, so governments have little real power. You won't find many movies that tackle the real issues, but there are many that deal with the problems facing those that end up paying the price for this greed, and these are the soldiers, their friends, their families and all the civilian casualties. From this point of view it's a strong movie and worth watching.

Jus' goes to show why waste your life serving your country that has no gratitude for those who serve it. You either end up dead or mentally fucked up. Thats the truth.

I just saw this movie for the first time, and I must say it was pretty good. It's an upsetting concept, to say the least. Surprisingly enough the plot and the characters were very believable. The emotion & intensity were there from the very beginning. Codyc228 I understand that you have a better understanding about how the military contracts work, and how it specifically states that you could possibly be stop-lossed. However that is now 4 years after this movie was made and 11 years after 9/11. I can almost guarantee that the contract did not always state that this type of thing could happen to a solider. Overall good movie.

A truly amazing film. Really depicts how it actually is for American and British troops, going through the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. I feel it does this without dramatization but, instead with hard facts and conveyance of the emotion felt by even the toughest soldier. Bottom line is, the way these guys get treated and manipulated during and after their tours, is just despicable. Although I do not agree with the conflicts, these people still go through hell and it needs to be more widely recognized. 10/10

Great movie!! Joined the Army myself... I leave Sept 4th for basic.. I understand this movie now... I thought it was messed up what happened in the movie but.... On my contract I am held liable for 8 yrs... So anyone who signs up knows before they sign the papers that they can be called or stop lossed it says it on the contract... My contract is 3yrs active I can either get out after that time or re sign.. If I get out they can call me if they need me with in 4yrs.. Soooo really it shouldn't be a shock to someone in the military because they knew from the start.. Anyways great movie hope I explained what its really like in the real world for some of you to understand better =)

Not really bad, not really great either. I suppose a little more depth and focus and a little less MTV would have done this movie good.
