The first half takes you inside the Marine Corps boot camp experience (at least the Vietnam-era boot camp). The second half sees those recruits off to war. A powerful commentary on the human condition that is neither preachy nor glorifies war. 10/10

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Today... is Christmas! There will be a magic show at zero-nine-thirty! Chaplain Charlie will tell you about how the free world will conquer Communism with the aid of God and a few Marines! God has a hard-on for Marines because we kill everything we see! He plays His games, we play ours! To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls! God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps! Do you ladies understand?

Kubrick doing what he does best make amazing movies that you can watch over and over again. 5/5 I've read Gustav Hasford's novel The Short-Timers which was the basis for FMJ and Kubrick did not let the novel down in anyway Ermey's experience as a real-life DI during the Vietnam era proved invaluable, and he fostered such realism that in one instance, Ermey barked an order off-camera to Kubrick to stand up when he was spoken to, and Kubrick instinctively obeyed, standing at attention before realizing what had happened. That's what I call an actor! made KUBRICK stand at attention LOL

This film stares straight at the ugliness of war and the potential for violence within almost all people. Excellent cast and the camera work was superb. Brilliant direction by Stanley Kubrick. Worth a watch... 10/10

I was in the Marine Corps from 1989-1995. This movie is very close to bootcamp. We had 3 to 4 drill instructors with a Senior Drill Instructor. I love the bootcamp scenesbecause I relate to them.10/10

The boot camp scene reminded me of my service days, was in the corps (specialist sniper), in the kate 70s. A classic flick
