I refuse to believe that this was made in the 60's.

Simply stunning, Kubrick was generations ahead of his time with this film and nothing comes even close. He just had style! 10/10

I first saw this film in 1972. I was 6 years old; my parents were watching it and I didn't understand anything! I remember loving the music and thinking that the ape-men were cool. I finally read the novel, by Arthur C. Clarke, (Which was published shortly after the 1968 release of the film) when I was 12. The images that book brought to my young mind! It nurtured a life-long passion for SciFi. I re-watched the film when I was stationed on Guam, (1983-1986) and finally understood it! This film gives us the idea that life on Earth was brought about by a superior race of beings, beings who've been benevolent and watching over us for millenia. It's meant to open our minds to wondrous possibilities and to give us hope and to possibly ease the loneliness of feeling that we are alone. Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, were both scientific visionaries, whose work has had very few equals. An all time favourite and highly recommended to fans of classic SciFi. 5/5 stars.

This was so amazing!! Stanley Kubrick is the most amazing director! This movie was so good. I love the music, the plot is so original. There are slow parts, but that is how the movie is. It is amazing. This is a MUST SEE!!

truly brilliant cinematic masterpiece. as with most kubrick films, a degree of intelligence and attention span is required to appreciate it.

Generations from now this cinematic statement will elicit Rorschachian musings.. In a '68 Playboy interview, Kubrick stated:"You're free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical and allegorical meaning of the film—and such speculation is one indication that it has succeeded in gripping the audience at a deep level—but I don't want to spell out a verbal road map for 2001 that every viewer will feel obligated to pursue or else fear he's missed the point."

Awesome, this movie is 44 years old, they have flat screens everywhere, tablets, video conference calls, digital keyboards, sharp room designs way ahead of its time, if you look at other sci-fi movies you can still see the keyboards, cathodic-ray TVs etc. Great story, left me thinking.

A absolute classic. I never watched this until after I had read the books, and I am very glad that I did. Still a very interesting watch, even today; and I am usually not a fan of films past 1980. A very unique premise with some great, for its day, graphics and acting. 8/10 stars, highly recommended.

Artistically this film rates up there with the best of all time. Sci-fi or otherwise. It has lasting appeal that makes it watchable beyond that one time viewing. Two eyes open (o.o) the whole time. There is not a down moment in the whole movie. It's one those movies when you catch it on TV you stop and watch it.

love it because its realistic ... not a lot happens in space travel ..... the day to day drudgery is portrayed in every drawn out detail . a lot of people dont get the "through the stargate" part ,well, communication with an alien race beyond anything we know of as normal is going to be a bit odd , and i like the "next step in evolution" theme throughout. hals trouble with keeping secrets isnt fully explained ,but it is there and it can be worked out. the only unrealistic part is on the moon , they didnt know how much gravity there would be up there and guessed ....wrongly as it turned out.

A fantastic ride from Kubrick, telling us about the story of mankind from primitive ape men to the man of the future. Classic and great with superb special effects that where way ahead of its time. !0/10

This is a true sci-fi classic. It's a complex, visually stunning movie...that's open to each viewer's individual interpretation...if you're willing to keep an open mind and really think about it on a deeper level you may enjoy it as much as I did. This is not the movie for you if you're looking for a plot-driven story with lots of action & special effects, but if you're looking for a sci-fi movie about space exploration filled with symbolism that will make you think, that was way ahead of it's time, sit back and enjoy the experience.

Every Kubrick film is a classic. And every other film maker has lived in his shadow ever since. But no one has topped his visionary brilliance. Hands down the best original sci-fi movie ever made.
