Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine do great justice to this Hitchcock thriller full of secrets, and of course the cinematography is perfect. A must for those that appreciate good film-making no matter the year. 4.5/5 Thank you uplinkers.

Having never seen Olivier's early work this was an eye opener for me, it's neat seeing where Oliviers Szell in Marathon man came from. The film is epic and it has you guessing as to what secrets people are keeping. Joan Fontaine is warm and soft like a summers breeze. great story.

Hitchcock was a master filmmaker on so many different levels. Perfect stars and cast for perfectly fitting roles. Based on a blockbuster best selling book, to mold his sets and cinematography around. Perfect musical coordination with scores by the great Franz Waxman. A rare classic gem that continues to stand the test of time ... 10/10

One of Hitchcock's finest early work. Joan Fontaine is great in this and George Sanders is deliciously creepy...

I just finished reading the book and watching the movie. I wasn't thrilled by the book. I found the movie to actually be a bit better, as the book didn't go into particulars about how the house looked. Maxim and the narrator were far more handsome than I imagined while reading the novel. And even though it didn't quite follow the book, it was still quite 'hauntingly beautiful' as the person who recommended it to me described it.

One of my favorite Alfred Hitchcock films. It had a very creepy, and more of an old horror-like feel than many of his other films. Beautiful cinematography, score, and excellent performances. Brilliantly entertaining, and engaging plot. This is for sure a must see!

Probably my favorite so far of the movies I've seen of Olivier's. Really slow paced but it's meant to be. Good acting. Suspenseful.

Less of a ghost story but more of a haunting mystery with Hitch's first American film that is a great film despite the changes to the story.
