Don't worry; you're not alone with that. 'The Shining' IS a classic ~ the book as well as the film. The only genre I watch is horror, specifically 80's horror films. Recent movies are rarely of any interest to me ~ I find many of them typical, boring, packed with horror cliches and stereotypes, and filled with CGI to draw attention away from the fact that the storylines are pathetic. It is a loss to anyone who can't appreciate films such as 'The Shining'. And this is coming from a fifteen year old girl.

Just finshed watching the movie after reading the book. Its a great movie but i won't lie and say that i wasn't disappointed with the ending, the book had a totally different ending! I definitly loved the book more than the movie but it was still such an amazing movie with such a fabulous cast especially Jack Nicholson.

I read the book before the movie came out and was fired up to go see it when it did. Although the movie was very good (it IS Kubrick after all) in and of itself but it certainly did not follow the book. I was disappointed to a degree. Where are the hedge animals? That was my favorite part of the book and was let down when that scene was completely omitted from the movie. And the maze? What maze? Jack didn't freeze to death and Holleran doesn't die in the book. He actually saves Danny and Wendy. But I guess you could say that Tony was the REAL hero. I agree with you, loviiekawaii!

I think it goes without saying that this is indeed theeeeee very best horror movie of alllll time. And the best part about it is that there's only one on scream murder or "redrum". The music complements this movie like no other, it's chilling and suspenseful. Great acting and awesome story. 10/10

This is a very good film. It is classic Kubrick, but it does not follow the book very well (sometimes not at all): From the opening scene in Ullman's office to the ending it was completely altered to fit the director's vision (not SK's novel and description) of what it should be. I am still waiting for this one to be done right; a remake? Jack Nicholson is superb it this film so watching it for his performance alone is worth it. Enjoy! Cheers. :)

I agree with cyberdag that this is possibly the best King book that has been made into a film, aside from Carrie. Kubrick is a genius with this film. Everything is timed well and no one scene seems unnecessary or drawn out (which is a miracle in a 2+ hour film) and as in many other films Jack steals the show with his slow descent into madness. I've seen this film many times before but it never gets old. It's a classic!

Stephen King has written some great stories and while I like to read him, I've found that not many of his books have translated well to film. This one has, mainly because of Kubrick's genius as a film maker. He's managed to capture the feel of the novel better than many films based on King's works. I've found his short stories and novellas tend to translate better, but, especially considering the length of the novel this is based on, it's quite successful. Read the book if you haven't already - it's bloody terrifying!

This is probably the best horror movie of all time. I can never turn the channel away from this and it comes on seemingly bi-monthly. The art put into the violence here is impeccable. 5/5

it is a well performed movie, not recommend for a child even though the first time I watched I was just going to be 12 it is one of my fav movies, and never lose its scarinest and emotions after many years, you can watch it many time and feel as if you were watching the first time. well it might not be the same for some of you but for me I can watched it 10000 time. give a chance and you'll see that it might be enjoyable 11111/5

The best horror film ever made. Can't understand why King disliked Kubricks version, the tv series was an abomination. No one can make horror films like this today, no one has the vision, tact or orginality.
