not gonna lie, I only watched this movie 'cause I knew Hugh Dancy and Eddie Redmayne get in bed together. *shrug* this movie was a little too weird for my tastes (and it's based on true events, which makes it even weirder). Tony's relationship with his mother was...fucked up, to say the least. It was kinda boring at parts, too. But the acting was good? I think that's the only positive thing I have to say about it.

We can't help cringing as a viewer, especially since the taboo topic running throughout the movie lurks around every corner...but the acting was brilliant and the editing was perfection. A wonderful film for that quiet, rainy Sunday afternoon....10/10

I've read the thoughts of everyone's take on this movie. I read a book about a boy who was mentally ill growing up his parents spent thousands and thousands to try to get him to be "normal" his mother's words not mine. This young man raped his mother and then killed her and I believe he then raped her again. So,this is going on some place out in this world and yet we are shocked and feel like it's wrong to put it out there for all to see.How do we learn and try to save if only one family from the same tragedy if we do not make people aware this is going on and offer help? Not trying to anger anyone or offend anyone. I felt the same thing when I saw this and when I read the book of the other family. I'll say this and shut up.We have to have a license to fish to drive to ect. many times take classes to learn the rules but, anyone can have a child? The children are the victims before and after these things it breaks my heart.

A most disturbing and sad film based on true facts, with brilliant performances by Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne. This family was very dysfunctional and disturbed to say the least. It's too bad so much has been left out (read the book). Excellent cast of characters, brilliant directing... 8/10

It was strange, dark, and twisted... yet somehow, it kept me drawn in till the end. I think it's worth at least a one time watch.

It is a mixture of darkness and light that contains moments of humor and warmth along with moments of sheer depravity. Its power is very real because the characters are recognizable as suffering human beings rather than as caricatures. While the appeal of Savage Grace is limited because of its dark subject matter, it is a mesmerizing and powerful experience, impeccably acted by Julianne Moore in one of her greatest performances.

good movie,i read an article stating that Barbara didn't really have sex with her son,she only told people that for shock value.I doubt anyone will ever know the truth in that regard.

There are films that either live or die based solely upon the choices made in casting when all other parts are already brilliantly done. The acting performances in this film are beyond brilliant, and even after long consideration, I can't think of anyone that could have played their parts better. Some reviewers have said that they felt like the writer's were afraid to dive too deeply into some of the more taboo subject material, but personally I think the amount of material that was worked into the film gave more than enough insight into the progression or should say, the deterioration of the characters frame of mind. Overall, it's a brilliant film and definitely worth watching, but this is not a film to watch when you're bored as you really need to give it your full attention.

Disturbing, oscar acting, dark tale of the ultimate dysfunctional family. I so wanted to "get up in there and kick the mom's butt!" Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne shine in their roles. I first got hooked on watching Eddie R. when I watched Pillars of the Earth mini-series.

While this certainly isn't a film everyone will enjoy, I absolutely loved it. The cast truly breathes life into their complicated, often repellant characters. Julianne Moore was excellent as always, and I was especially impressed by Eddie Redmayne's performance. This isn't really a movie with clear-cut "good guys" and "bad guys," where you identify with a character and root for them to overcome their challenges and live happily ever after. It's more like watching a car accident in slow motion; you know everyone is doomed from the start, and you can't help but watch with rapt attention as these people hurdle towards oblivion. If you're looking for an inspiring "feel-good" movie, you won't find it here. But if, like me, you can't help but be fascinated by the f*cked up things people can do to themselves and those around them, Savage Grace is your kind of movie.

After reading the comments I figured I would like this movie, but I found myself not even paying attention to it until it got really weird, and honestly after finishing it I was left confused, and I have no idea what the point was.

Easily one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. It was well-acted and evocative because of how adept the filmmaking is, but if you are the squeamish or ultra-conservative type when it comes to sexuality, etc., which the film presents sordidly, then you would probably do well to shy away from this one. As it is based upon a true story, I'd recommend looking up the case before you watch it, as others here have. Content/entertainment value: 4/10. Filmmaking/craft: 8/10. However it is a wonderful film in the sense that it is guaranteed to make you feel your own family less dysfunctional, however horrible you think it is. :) Guaranteed.
