Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King the Tommyknockers tells the story of a town taken over by an unexplained presence that seems to expand their intellect, but at what cost,8/10.

people referring to these as 'Stephen King movies' - you know he writes books, right? Try cracking one of his novels and you'll really be impressed!

On the surface a sci fy/mystery - but the sub-message is the danger of temptations and the false messiah of mans technology and materialism and a motif of 'cola-cool' a drink that seems to weaken people and make them susceptible to mind control (or could just be subliminal product placement) Interesting movie.

you gals being disgusted by the "lipstick woman" maybe have good instincts, if a lack of tolerance for folks who are not the same as you .. I believe that is Traci Lords, a famous (or infamous as one sees it) porn actress from the time. Possibly you have been slighted somehow by similar girls in your personal lives? lol .. Personally I think she is well cast here and does a good job of the character, S King loves his characters to have classical faults in the christian world view, a deeply american symbol of corruption and evil in horror stories.

Jimmy Smits steals the show as a very vulnerable, drunken poet - quite convincing. This transcends the book, in which this character is quite irritating. The rest of the cast do a decent job. A bit better than the book overall. 7/10

20 of the 32 listed on IMDB are still acting and have become successful at it and that is very unusual. Thats over a period of 23 years. There are some flaws in the movie but all in all very well done considering CGI at that time was still in it\s infancy. In my opinion this is one off King's best on the big screen and TV.

I've literally just finished reading the book so thought I'd give the film a watch - it's okay but I can't believe how terrible the casting is! The bimbo in the post office in the book is supposed to be a woman in her 50s who still has the last of her youthful looks, Bobbi's dog is meant to be a beagle (might sound stupid but he plays a pretty big part in the novel), and Bobbi Anderson is supposed to have long dark hair and on the verge of being ugly. Jim Gardener is well cast though - in my opinion anyway. The combination of characters that is bound to happen when a book becomes a film (because the amount of characters in a book could never work in a movie) is really odd, too.

No matter how stupid some of King's stories are, I can't help but love them. This time aliens & horror. He's a genious. His brain cranks out an amazing amount of material. This one was weird, but still entertaining. 8/10

cool story, to me it seems like a message about drugs and how people don't care weather the pleasure they get is real or not and they lose site about what it does to them. 5/5
