Lawless Cowboys: When the name of Maurice Tombragel pops up as the writer on a B-western, the odds are very high in many instances that his "original" had been done before and, most times, probably better. But his work here, riding backwards, on this trail of pilferage finds that Victor Hammond (The Utah Kid, 1944), George Plympton (Mesquite Buckaroo, 1939) and Robert Emmett Tansey (Trouble in Texas, 1937) had all managed to sell their own versions of Robert N. Bradbury's uncredited original story and Lindsley Parson's original screenplay from John Wayne's 1934 "The Man from Utah." In this version, lawman Whip Wilson (Whip Wilson), a retired Texas Ranger, is investigating a gambling ring bribing or forcing rodeo performers to throw certain events. Whip is aided by his pals, Horace Greely Smithers (Fuzzy Knight) and rodeo performer Jim Bannon (Jim Bannon), in exposing saloon owner Cory Hanson (Lee Roberts) and gambler Ace Malley (Richard Avonde) as the leaders of the gambling ring.
