this is one of the greatest war movies ever made and probably the best works from Lee Marvin and Toshirô Mifune. this movie is so underrated in entertainment quality and importance. 10/10 for standing the test of time.

What an amazing movie. It's just WOW. The direction, cinematography and the acting was pure cinematic brilliance. It's not just another war movie with alot of explosions and fight scene. This explores the enmity, the loneliness, the fear, the emotional and mental struggle of two men caught on the opposite sides of war. The 2 men don't just join forces to survive immediately. They go against each other for so long and the bond they finally build is beautifully and practically depicted. From the 1st shot onwards, the way the movie's directed and the beautiful cinematography just draws u in and never lets go until the end. It's such a shame that this movie didn't receive even one award nomination. It could have easily get a nomination for best direction, cinematography and movie. This movie is simply one of the best war/ survival movie ever made. Gotta be the biggest snub is Oscar history. If they ever remake this movie,i hope they do it with 2 great actors in the lead and a great director directing it.

I watched this movie when I was in university, I laughed and I cried and I never forget about this most human in a war context film. This movie marked my generation.

entire movie = 2 guys roaming around on a deserted island.. no cool wwII weapons or machines etc.. this movie must have had a really small budget.. even for 1968 2/5 stars
