pacific war really was hell , everyone goes on about europe and d day .... but there was a d day every couple of weeks out there , a lot more horror and brutality as well. this series finally gives some credit to the pacific fighters.

Band of Brothers may have been more polished but this showed a lot more of the horrifying action; it also featured a nice perspective on women and family with how the war affected those away from the battle fields. Still good, but I enjoyed the characters on Band of Brothers more.

I have just finished watching all ten episodes over 24 hrs and it was just amazing the special effects were out of this world and even better with full surround sound you really get to feel for these men through the different campaigns in the pacific and in the final episode it draws you in just that bit more when they have trouble trying to adapt to civvy life again and forever left wondering why they survived the war and not the other marines but the one thing that really annoyed me and angered me was the fact a lot of those marines went through the entire pacific campaign but came home to nothing, while after all the war ended most of the newer marines came home first to all the celebrations and parades but when the longer serving veterans came home for most there was nothing apart from maybe family & friends and you get a feel of just what that must have felt like remember these men have gone to hell and back over 2 yrs and most came back to nothing not much of welcome home or appreciation for what they did for us all. Also 1 or 2 have commented about this mini-series saying it was nothing like (Band of Brothers) well i should think not they were to completely different campaigns in two completely different climates to start with also if it had have been like Band of Brothers it would have been a let down so me for one is very happy it's different i really enjoyed it and i will definately be watching it all over again at least half a dozen times because from start to finished this was and is a great movie can't wait to see what Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg can come up with next i do hope they do not stop here i would love to see them do a mini-series about the American civil war, and/or the war in Vietnam now that i would like to see,GREAT MOVIE****** 10/10.

I'll just say that band of brothers and the pacific, have both happened. Band of Brothers is about the war in Europe, when the Pacific is about the war against the Japanes. Both Band of Brothers and The Pacific are based on the memories of some of the veterans from both wars. I think that these two mini series are equaly good. sins both of them are true stroies.

This and Band of Brothers are well told stories of some of the worst battles of WW2 and the men that took part in the carnage. It doesn't glorify war or attempt to unjustly demonize the enemy. It is told from the memories of men who actually took part in the fight. Produced by Tom Hanks and others, they also created Band of Brothers. I wish parents or guardians, of children who play World of Warcraft etc., might take the time to watch this series with them. It might open their hearts and minds to a deeper level of understanding, showing them what real war is all about. The moments of remembrance by those who actually took part in the war, are epic in and of themselves.

This was just as good as Band of Brothers, anyone saying otherwise is just disappointed because it was different. They didn't concentrate on just one group of characters, also it was a bit more jaunty in the beginning but became much more grim towards the end, as they wrestled with morality. I liked it just as much even though it was less inspiring.

This had me captivated just like BOB had me captivated. Same war but completely different experiences. As a American, I am just proud to have BOB and The Pacific in my DVD repertoire. Automatic classics. Thank you men and women for fighting for our freedom in the past and in the present! BTW: Best part of every episodes are the real people talking about the experience. So heart wrenching.
