Turn of the Century: Squire Munthe (Edvard Persson) is the head of a sugar-beet farm at the turn of the century and has to deal with the problems of the farm workers and the imported workers. The squire is tolerant and understanding of the problems---a Swedish version of Will Rogers, or vice versa depending on where you are---and works through all of the problems with humor, wit and a good baritone singing voice. Stina Hedberg plays the squire's wife, and Marianne Gyllenhammar is his daughter, who is in love with schoolteacher Claes Thelander, champion of the farm workers.
