Yes, it is a play. But don't stop to watch it! In 15-20 minutes you will forget about it. Outstanding acting! 10 out of 10!

Simply amazing and thought provoking. the ending gave me warm fuzzys, but even that gave me pause to ponder my own nature. A very raw peak into the souls of mankind.

This movie was so weird. It is really cool, but hard to watch more than one time, because of how odd it was. Really intense and had wonderful acting. The story line was very weird. Worth watching once.

Brilliant. Worth at least one look. Stage-like sets might give you pause but the actors make it seem unnecessary. I loved it and I love it still. Very strong content. It was intense. :)

The sets do look as if they are made for the stage; definately bare bones. This movie showcases the talent of the actors so incredibly though. I still felt that break with reality and pathos. I've always thought of Nicole Kidman as a "pretty face." She shines as a brilliant and talented actress in this film. I now have the utmost respect for her gift.

A stark and haunting film about human nature. The film is a concept piece that definitely won't be for the average film viewer. The film relies heavily on the actors ability to actually perform their craft convincingly which in this case they did. Superb acting by Nicole Kidman and the rest of the cast. This piece is very philosophically driven and deals with many social and psychological issues. It's one of those "what would you do in that situation" kind of movies. It's really a morality play or a Greek tragedy if you will. This movie is really long and somewhat hard to get through but the ending was worth it. Again, this is a challenging movie and if you don't like these kinds of interesting and different films it won't be for you. For others who enjoy a challenge I highly recommend this film.

This film is a window into the souls of man (and woman). It challenges you to examine who you are in theory, as most people judge themselves, versus application, as most people never face. If given absolute power over another, will you steadfast to your scruples or will you abandon them over the ease of self gratification? If all agree to behave immorally does it some how become moral? Is altruism non existant? Should people be held accoutable and punished or forgiven? Dogville is filled with a plethora of subjects for delicious philosophical debate. This film is to deliberate, it forces you to ponder the trials at hand without being distracted with elaborate sets or location. I loved it, with me it will linger long after the final credits, perhaps even the rest of my life.

This film reflects various disturbing aspects of the human soul, which is why some people hate it or are disgusted by it. It makes you look deep within yourself and ask "what would I have done if I had lived in that town? Would I have helped her?" Other people hate it because it is filmed entirely on a real stage, with very basic props. The acting is 100% and the message is the most powerful I have ever seen in a film. Fantastic, life-changing production.

I did not like this at first. By the end I was so into the story I no longer noticed the set. 5/5 Great piece of film here.
