Interesting take on doctoral students in the rarified air of an American university. Loosely based on true events of power, murder and madness. I was surprised to see M. Streep in this relatively low-key production. Interesting score. Good acting by all. 3/5

This socially conscious psychological drama was somewhat inspired by actual events. It tells a heart-wrenching story of a brilliant mind lost in translation. The film is skillfully shot, the acting is great all around, the direction is excellent, and it's thoroughly entertaining. So many elements in this film are so well done that it is impossible not to be drawn in. And one can't help but feel for the main characters. Worth a watch... 8/10

Loosely based on a true story. The name of the real student was Gang Lu. Anyway, the film was okay. Not the best I've ever seen and not the worst. Very slow moving though and sad. 3/5

here's what you do for megavideo. works good. load up movie first, then go offline to watch (or: watch: and when mostly downloaded and you can watch to 72 minute point, turn off internet). then when it tells you you've reached limit check the time, turn on internet and load again from time you left. viola! if you do the watch it while it loads thing, it can get a little fuzzy about the math on the time. best to just download it first then watch. PS and what's up with megavideo not letting me watch in full screen anymore? they really want your money...

Good movie not sure how I missed it. Subs for the Chinese bits would have been handy but didn't take away from the overall point. Sad movie really how he is exploited then tossed aside and screwed over when asshat Prof. Jacob learns he ten times smarter.

Good Movie. But the scientist just lost it. It happens especially with thjeoretical scientists, cosmologists, sorry. Ther kind of math 99% of us wouldnt have a clue and the other 1% would lie and say they do but they dont, not really. Sad story, guy probably just needed better support system here. Imagine beiong a chinese imigrant moving to California to go to school. The culture shock would take years to wear off. Not trying to make excuses, but this is an old story the graduate student cracking under the extreme pressure, feelings of not being appreciated for the math he was developing, being used by university as one would use a computer, impersonally, and without regard of the work load have piled on, just awaiting the 'result'. The story seems to follow the actual story as it reported in Wikipedia, not something I would stake my life on, but its there for reference, a Google search will turn up as much I am sure. Another story of a broken genius, who just completley went of the deep end, managing to hurt, and kill a lot of people using a single .38 calibre revolver. Strong acting performances, the Chinese guys are great, I loved the 'lady killer', can't recall his name, the roommate who told him to 'Fuck Dark Matter' near the end, guess his freinds could see what it was doing to him.

wonderfully tragic . a story of how politics can destroy knowledge and progress. nicely shot and produced and acted with great subtlety and strength by the entire cast . 8.5/10 as far as the links , it's sad that the only link that has english subtitles is megavideo , as its quite disappointing to have the film cut off with only 10 mins left. for the sake of others , i hope someone adds a english subtitled link on a different site (or do as i did , watch the megavideo version til it cuts you off then a youku link for the last 10 mins , you'll have a few mins in chinese , but you'll at least be able to finish the movie ) .
