i consider this series the best one out there, even better than GoT and breaking bad

Great show! Got something for everyone exept maybe the youngest. A bit to much blood and gore for them sometimes. Those offended by profane language and nudity may also want to give this one a miss. For everyone else this show is great. I rate it 5/5. I only wish that there was more seasons of it!

This was a series I thoroughly enjoyed! It may not be completely accurate at times, but, unless you're extremely pedantic, it really won't bother you, as this series will have you invested in it from pretty much the word go. The scripting is high quality, the story lines are great, the cast is superb and my only wish is that it had gone on for many more seasons. If you haven't watched this before, it is all wrapped up nicely, so don't think you'll be left hanging...you won't. You will, however, like me, wish for more!

If pressed for an answer I would honestly have to say this best series ever made. Brilliant in every way possible. Even the series running now that are compared to it just can't quite beat it. 10/10

great show...shame they had to reduce the number of seasons to only 2 due to budget cuts by the BBC. They wanted to make 5 seasons and only found out half way through the 2nd season the show was going to end with season 2. That is why it all seems a bit rushed in the end.

Terrific show; who knew history could kick this much ass, now if we could just get some deadwood links

There were supposed to be 5 seasons originally, and the first two seasons were supposed to cover Caesar's episodes and a little further, expanding on battles and exploits with Pompey. But the show was I guess too costly to continue at the time, even though it was on par with Game of Thrones and should have had the same popularity, but perhaps it was too ahead of its time. A quote from one of the show's co-creators, 'I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end. The second was going to end with the death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the Messiah in Israel. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There's certainly more than enough history to go around'. I hope one day it's restarted, because it would be well worth it, and unlike GOT, it's real history, about the birth of a real empire, and the many plots, twists and turns, and clash of cultures, kingdoms, armies, and politics that went with it.

I just wish they had enough money for this show - it could have lasted at least 6 seasons without getting boring for a second.

I had a couple days off work so I thought I'd kick back and start a new series... began the first episode about two days ago and just finished the last episode. This show really drags you into the story and makes you either love or hate (mostly hate in my case) almost everyone they introduce. Though regardless of how you feel about the characters it's still so gripping that you just have to watch the next episode. Definitely one of my favorite series to date.

Have only seen season 1, but is very good, was alittle disappointed how it skipped over the Cleopatra episode so quick and at times has a pretty rough sense of time, if you dont know the history well enough already but still acceptable if you dont know it. And fwiw season 1 plays out as a complete story in it own right, which was a good feature. Its a different style of drama than Spartacus, alot less nudity but has a good overall sense of realism. Well worth a watch, but unfortunately 1channel doesnt have many good links

Come on! Everytime I look for a show and I think: 'Hmm this looks really interesting', people always say 'cancelled' :s Why the hell do all producers cancel extremely good shows about the past? Well the answer is ofcourse: too expensive. But why do they always start to make art if they're going to run out of budget anyway :(

It's the 'Lord of the Rings' of TV series'. I'd give an Oscar for Marc Antony's scream after reading Cleopatra's letter.

They cancelled the show because it was too expensive. Rome is one of the most expensive series in the history of television.

Very richly detailed. I love this series. Too bad there was only two seasons.

Simply one of the top five historical pieces ever! So bloody good! The history geek in me gets so excited and almost gitty at every turn of the story. I heard the producers originally were working with a five season time frame, but was cut short due to how extremely expensive is was to keep producing this historically accurate and visually rich piece. Evidently, there was some talk about making a movie in the hopes of finishing up the story, which I guess is good. I'd rather have three seasons to slowly walk through the historical narrative, but I'll settle for a two hour movie I guess.
