whether its "donnie darko" or "s. darko" you have to have (at the very least) a basic understanding of the elements of philosophy and physics to even remotely comprehend the complexity of these films; time v. reality, right v. wrong, fate v. free will, dimensional parity/disparity... etc. further, you have to combine that understanding with the current (at the time) cultural portal (state of the world) that facilitated each film. "donnie darko" is an earth-shattering film. "s. darko" doesn't do enough to escape such a shadow, but is definitely an acceptable "continuation" of the ideas put forth in "d.d". all in all, watch it twice to catch it. $6.75/$10

Hated it -- stopped it after about 30 minutes. Too bad, because I loved Donnie Darko.

A slap in the face to Donnie Darko.

Probably wouldn't have been too bad if it wasn't a Donnie Darko sequel. Not even close to level of the first one, but worth a watch. 6/10

About 2 months ago I tried to watch this and rated it a 1/5 because I didn't have a clue what it was about. This morning I watched Donnie Darko and, although I still am in the Dark-0 (sorry, couldn't resist the pun), I sat through the entire film and can rate it a much higher 3/5. Therefore, I recommend that you watch the earlier film before attempting this one. I agree with practically everyone that this isn't as good as the previous film which had Jake Gugenthall, Drew Barrymore, Patrick Swayze, and a number of other stars in it. True to the original, it is as enigmatic and sinister as Donnie Darko. This film is less about teenaged angst, and more about a creepy demonic rabbit that needs a sacrificial lamb (Donnie and company) to stop the end of the world. Don't we always die alone? Really.3/5

4/5 Both Donnie Darko and this sequel are thought provoking movies for you to imagine the possibilities. Great movies!

I thought it was ok. The only thing that really connected it to the first was that she's Donnie sister. This movie was like three things happening at once. The deal with her friend, then the guy and his brother and if course Samantha's story. It kept my attention tho and the plot is not that different from the first one.

If you enjoyed the original Donnie Darko, you will also like this continuation, through his sister. The film gives a great analogy of people's interactions effecting everyone, with an ending that allows each viewer their own distinct choices of what to take from it. I personally enjoyed it - 5/5

cool how the sister is played by the same actress as from the first, not cool how she can't escape the time travel paradox that consumed and destroyed her brother...good watch, must have watched the first to understand this...6.75/10

I quite like this film, it's good in it's own right, but I don't really like it as a sequel to Donnie Darko, one of my favourite films.
