Amazing film, amazing sets, amazing acting .... so many people have slated this film in the past due to it apparently being one of the biggest flops in Hollywood ... however taking into account production costs and the false starts it had a huge amount to recoup from the onset. With re releases and now video and DVD sales the film has made money and should remain a milestone in film for the way an epic should be made. Seen a great documentary on this also "cleopatra - the film that changed Hollywood" - well worth the watch. I have wandered if the film had have been as powerful if Taylor had have been replaced by Marilyn Monroe.

This is the only movie I ever liked Liz Taylor in, but it is enough. The most expensive movie ever made still I think, back when EVERYTHING was real and not CGI, this 3 hour masterpiece is EPIC and amazing. And for those who slept in History class, and think she was black: Cleopatra VII was the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a family of GREEK origin that ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great's death. The Ptolemies, throughout their dynasty, spoke Greek and refused to speak Egyptian, which is the reason that Greek as well as Egyptian languages were used on official court documents like the Rosetta Stone. Cleopatra did learn to speak Egyptian and represented herself as the reincarnation of an Egyptian goddess, Isis.

An old classic that everyone should see at least once. The on screen/off screen chemistry between Taylor and Burton is clearly evident here.

A good one time watch for me. Overly Dramatic. Cleopatra is a fairly good old epic film. I did enjoy watching it for the most part, but I have to admit it was drawn out to long. It felt like the movie was lasting forever, boring in quite a few places and was over generally acted by the cast - overly dramatic at times. What I did like about the film was the over all story, and pretty nice luxurious costuming and elaborate sets. Some of the action scenes in the movie were quite exciting and their was some sexy romantic moments as well. 6.5/10

For everyone arguing over whether or not Cleopatra was black you can just look it up. Her family was Greek/Macedonian but they had been in Egypt for a few hundred years so it stands to reason there was some breeding with the natives who would have been Arabs (like almost everybody living in Egypt at the time and now). A quick google search would uncover the truth. Seriously, it took me thirty seconds to learn this. Just because some black people had moved from southern parts of Africa to Egypt did not mean she was black, that's like saying George Washington was black because there were some black people in the US at that time.

Cleopatra's family was in Africa for hundreds of years before see came to power. There is no way she was pure Greek, nor just pure African, plus her sister was shown to have African dna. Blacks and whites, and muslims and so on should stop trying to claim history as bonus points to their own race, its ignorant, childish, and you had no part in it, so therefore deserve zero credit. Do things on your own to be proud of, for gods sake. We should all learn and appreciate all cultures, and great leaders from history, even if they belong to your race or not. An educated well rounded person will neither be Eurocentric nor Afrocentric.

@ DallasBoy yep she was but at birth they put the women in low light and kept them out of the sun and bathed them until their skin became lighter. so it was the way in Egyptian royalty.....And yes the Black's enslaved the Jew's and wiped them until the pyramids were built. hehe just stating the truth......
