Love the cast and the film itself seemed to be made very well. I had to turn it off at 40mins though because it was just too slow for me and I am very impatient haha. Would have given it an 8/10 otherwise, but for me, with what I watched of it, I would give it a 5/10.

It was a very slow movie, but if you really watch it, it's defiantly worth it. It easily makes my top 5. 9/10

I implore you subtract two hours from your everyday function and indulge onto a wonderful adaptation of great literature. Salles's best work since The Motorcycle Diaries. This is worth the time. Enjoy!!!!

I have long been anticipating this movie. I read this wonderful classic novel long ago and I wondered how it would be adapted to the screen. What a fantastic film. It is a gritty thrill ride of freedom, booze, drugs, reckless abandon, sexuality, poetry, jazz and just going where the road takes you. The beat generation was ahead of its time, indeed. The acting is incredible and the story flows along in its own eccentric way. Not a film for everyone, but definitely a treasure to those who enjoy seeing the unorthodox side of life.

It's an ok adapation, maybe about as well as anyone could hope to do to a book that is raw, loose, feverish and mad. I think Garret did pretty good portraying Neal Cassidy, and Sam Riley is good as Kerouac. But it doesn't really show us the fire that was Neal Cassidy... here was a guy who wasn't himself a poet or writer, but a genuine artist of life and living, here was a guy who made such an impact on all the artists of his time they couldn't help but be influenced by him and write about him in some way. It does end with a genuine sadness, as the book does, of Time and the inevitable changes which take place and lead us apart from those things we loved so much in our more younger years. There are a lot of parts missing from the book, but that's expected. People may say there's no story, that the movie is just event after event, but isn't that life in a way? A remembering of events, some small and others just a little larger, few so wonderfully magnificent.

A cinematic treat for lovers of Beat literature and in particular Kerouacs novel. While other adaptations of Beat works, such as Howl and Naked Lunch (David Cronenberg) have incorporated biographical detail with the hallucinogenic imagery and experimental approach from the original texts, On the Road is a much more straightforward adaptation.

fuck, the ending left me feeling so lonely...thinking of mine and my fsther's similarities to the character of Dean...a condition we now call ADD...what is really a dystrophy of the Reward System...or what may boil down to just wanting to say "fuck you" when you think of family instead of it giving you warm feelings, and then being left alone emotionally to work out other ways to create those warm feelings and never doing it very well or consistently until it becomes clear those feelings are the only way to concentrate

Wonderfully captures the world weariness, the search for the highs and the pits of the fallen of the book . A great sadness to watch yet strangely exhilarating . Much of my craziness of youth here yet I am glad it's past. Everyone acts to their limit and the cinematography is great 10/10 of course though not for everyone !!

this movie has definitely inspired me to read the book. although i have to say this film made me feel almost heartbroken at the end. or something to that effect. its hard to put your finger on it but i had this deep sadness almost. and when a movie is capable of such pathos it becomes one of my favorites. 10/10

I'm just as conflicted with the movie as I was with the book. It had potential but I always found it to be lacking something. It DOES give one a terrible wanderlust and feelings of nostalgia. And while I like their choice of actors for Sal and Dean, my personal Dean Moriarty will always be Robert Alfons of Trust.

Never read the book. But I liked this movie. I was skeptical reading some comments but said what the heck. I thought it would be slow, and pointless. But I enjoyed it! If you've ever been nostalgic about being young, vibrant, and with out a care in the company of good friends - this movie definitely will have its appeal. Adding that it was a period piece, it really did the trick.

Booze, sex, drugs, music and much more for the forerunners of a new generation of rebels,of WWII survivors,of demolitions and reconstructions of values...the discovery of an instant mobility,of free spaces and times beating new sounds on a road with new directions and friends, with short distances from far away places, long lasting emotions from short lived feelings...always as precursors of things to come, new ideas and styles unfolding, searching and breaking, losing and building or rebuilding ideas...the message remains and this movie could have gone for three more hours and still not tell us enough, because the road has no beginning or end....great directing by Salles and a good cast that will be remembered.

This is such a great movie. At the time it takes place where not much is so much and inspiration in friendship is all that matters. On the Road is heartfelt, sad and very inspirational to those that have dreams and want to become something in life. And to those that don't, there is still something in the winds for you as well. Garrett is Brilliant in this characterization of an explorer. His fantastic voice while narrating and his look while in the presence of another is just incredible. He was just sensational. Loved this movie!! 5/5
