Killing Us Softly 3: Jean Kilbourne's pioneering work helped develop and popularize the study of gender representation in advertising. Her award-winning Killing us Softly films have influenced millions of college and high school students across two generations and on an international scale. In this important new film, Kilbourne reviews if and how the image of women in advertising has changed over the last 20 years. With wit and warmth, Kilbourne uses over 160 ads and TV commercials to critique advertising's image of women. By fostering creative and productive dialogue, she invites viewers to look at familiar images in a new way, that moves and empowers them to take action.

Advertising sells way more than products and people don't realize this. No matter what you do, you cannot escape the ads. I mean it's everywhere. Internet, tv, on the streets, etc. The fact that 99% of ads with people on them have been altered tells you something. Why must we retouch photographs or create the "perfect" person? Most people fall into the trap. Believing that if they try hard enough and buy these products to "firm your skin", "lose weight", "reduce fine lines and wrinkles", "minimize pores" etc they can become this unrealistic, "perfect" person. Whether or not people realize it.. we are constantly being told to change. That we aren't good enough. Though this movie talks generally about the effects on women, it effects men as well. This is a great movie. Everyone should watch this and though our opinions may not be the same, she makes a lot of good points. It helps you open your eyes and is very thought provoking 5/5
