Every Star Wars fan should see this once, then bury it. Best part was the Boba Fett cartoon, I hope someone edited a copy separate from the" special"and it exists somewhere. This "thing" reminds me of a bad copy of " How the Grinch Stole Christmas", and "Seussical the Musical". I am shocked that there was so much miss used talent in this, and I wonder who George Lucas owed money to at the time that they forced him to get this dog to be made 0_0

This was a christmas Holiday, made for T.V,special put together after the enormous Popularity of Star Wars-a new hope-in theatres.Back in those days People couldnt get enough of the movie-They were camping out, sleeping on sidewalks, just to see the Film over and over again. This is cheesy and dated, but,is worth a view because its rare. There's a BOBA FETT Cartoon that takes place during the middle of the program.NOTE:Boba Fett was first introduced HERE 2 years before The Empire Strikes back was made .Original version of star wars didnt show Boba Fett standing under the millenium Falcon.Sci/fi Nostalgic Scale 3/5.Whomever posted this-THANK YOU.This is a veritable Time capsule Capturing the style and time of the year 1978

I was wrong in what I said in my earlier comment about the original 70's commercials being included. In this most recent version they have edited out the commercials, even though this is still from a VHS recording of the original TV broadcast. This has never been released to this day per George Lucas's instructions. And they have included some rarely seen Star Wars movie trailers from the 70's and 80's at the end of the special, which were are interesting to see. As bad as the Star Wars Holiday Special is I still like it more than I like Jar Jar Binks.

If you are a diehard Star Wars fan. Give it a watch. It is a one off, you watch it once and never again. But it is good to say you watched in original 1978 not edited Star Wars special. I will give it a 8.5/10. Just on the sole fact that they gave us those little cartoons and tidbits in between everything else. Nice time filler. Goodbye and may the force be with you :)

Wow.. You guys know when everybody tells you something sucks and then you watch it, and you see the good things in it just to spite them... this isn't one of those. This is a gang raped version of Star Wars, in short. I sat there literally trying not to hit the fast forward button to get through some on this shit just so I could say I sat through it.

I laugh and think of this every time someone says the prequels ruined star wars, if a bad movie could ruin the whole franchise then it was ruined long before the prequels came out.

Guess this is more a Wookie Christmans Special, just like the Ewoks movies were. In this one you have Mark Hamil come in for 3 mins, Harission Ford for a total of 4 mins and Carrie Fisher for around 4 mins as well but she does sign off in the end singing. On the whole, it is a nostalgic piece. As today you have a Shrek or Ice Age Christmas Specials, Tv was experimenting and you got the Star Wars special in the 70. You can't do a movie Christmas Special thesedays because the actors cost too expensive for TV and it would be corny. Unless you are a die hard fan, this is a "milk the cow" piece which is pretty forgetful. I would say this is what happens when actors are bound by contract..they must stoop that low and do anything. May be it was a pay cheque, who knows but the funny thing though..there was nothing really pointing to a Christmas story in this.

This is 32 years old (1978), you can't really stand here and judge it by todays standards (2011), The 70s was a time were television and cinema was very different, if you're a star wars fan or consider yourself one by todays standards and the digitally remastered old versions and new versions then you're best to stay away from this, it was a holiday special and very poor in comparison to the original and was never meant to be a block buster, it was a special version with some additional special cast at the time. If you're old enough to remember star wars in it's prime then this video will disappoint you quickly but provide a wow of nostalgia and how different the times have gotten since the original star wars was filmed in 1977.

I love the fact that the copy that we have to watch is from a VHS recording of the original TV program, including the original commercials, because George Lucas hates it and will not release it. It is a horrible movie, but horrible in a kind of heart warming way and knowing that Lucas doesn't want anyone to see it makes watching it that much more fun.

As the resident star wars freak of 1channel.ch I have to point out that this isn't actually related to Christmas at all. :P It was released for thanksgiving and Wookiee Life Day isn't Christmas so I'm not sure why it was interpreted that way, other than the fact that its called a "Holiday Special"
