I was 5 years old in 1977 - so I had the pleasure of watching it when it first aired. I fell in-love with this movie so much that my parents bought me both of the read along record albums to this film (I still wish I had them today but lost them many years ago). This is an outstanding classic TV Movie. If you loved Peter Jackson's films (Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series) plus animations then I'm sure you would love this old 1977 made-for-TV movie. It's well worth finding a copy of the film to watch. I would love a copy of this movie to add to my collection. Other great animated classic films that are similar: The Black Cauldron, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, The Last Unicorn and The Secret of NIMH. 9.5/10

In the time of my youth we did not have an e-book, and this story plus the 'The Hobbit' were an awesome tale to read. When I was young my friends and I watched this together, we were so happy that the book became a televised animation, it was a great animation that was cool then and still is today. 5/5

Though the newer live action LOTR films were much better, (and am VERY Excited about the new HOBBIT), I grew up on these LOTR cartoons which spurred me to read the books. Great for younger kids who found the live action a little difficult to follow. :)

Great, great classic. Loved it growing up, and nothing's changed now. Will forever be a classic for the ages.

This was one of my favorites as a young boy, and I still love it. Honestly I enjoy this alot more than the hollywood films. Compare the book and watch closely you can see the movies have stolen things from the cartoon ;^) Seems the producers of LOTR trilogy and hobbit like it as well.

My 6 year old nephew and I enjoyed it. Seemed to stay fairly true to the book from what I can remember, though it has been several years since I read it. Regardless, this was an entertaining and well-animated movie.

Thank you for uploading this! I remember watching this when I was in high school. When I read the Hobbit after college, I thought it was the greatest story ever. Can't wait for the movie to come out!

It was this movie that turned me onto the books, which, between them all, provided countless hours of escapism for me growing up. Love, love, love it. The trilogy is great, too, as I'm sure the live action "The Hobbit" coming up will be, but this animated feature can't be beaten, either. Definitely worth a watch: 9/10.

I loved this film when I was a kid, and almost drove my mum insane singing the rather annoying theme music all day lol. I rewatched it now and still like it, so I give Mr Baggins 3.9/5 stars.

Bilbo makes Frodo look like a punk. That is why it was hard to watch The lord of the rings movies. Great movies but frodo was always crying and punking out. If you grew up watching the Hobbit like I did, It's a let down with the character of his nephew. He was written that way, but it still stings(no pun/ bad pun) . Bilbo loved adventure. Hell, he sung about it(lol)! If the movie is anything like this classic, it will be great. Minus the singing,of course...
