Sherlock: Sherlock Holmes was always a modern man. Its the world that got old. Now hes back as he should be: edgy, contemporary, difficult and dangerous in three new dramas on BBC One. Watson, a doctor, soldier and war hero, is fresh from military service in Afghanistan. A chance encounter brings him into the world of Sherlock Holmes, a loner, detective and genius. The two men couldnt be more different, but Sherlocks inspired leaps of intellect, coupled with Johns pragmatism, soon forge an unbreakable alliance. A woman in pink lies dead in a derelict house, the fourth in a series of impossible suicides. DI Lestrade is the best Scotland Yard has got, but even he knows he cant compare to the young man who can tell a software designer by his tie or an airline pilot by his thumb. Sherlock has a unique analytical mind, earning his living and staving off boredom by solving crimes. The weirder and more baffling the better Across three thrilling, scary, action-packed and hugely entertaining episodes, Sherlock and John navigate a maze of cryptic clues and lethal killers to get at the truth.

Im a huge Sherlock Holmes fan. I read all the stories as a child and made, in my head, a very real and very detailed vision from them. There have been many who have tried to pull off the magic that only a few have gotten right. Sherlock Holmes has got to be one of the hardest of characters to play. Eccentric, yet Majestic. Arrogant, yet Mysterious. Poised, yet Wild. And forget the actor, I feel very sorry for the director and producer. Not only do you need someone who can pull out all of these traits, but he HAS to look the part or it just doesnt work. A short, fat Sherlock Holmes? I think not! There have only been three who have pulled it off to my knowledge. Of course Ronald Howard, not perfect but close, but he was the original Holmes. But the stories were far too short and he didnt get to really give us the extreme character we know from the books. But I think he could have done it. Jeremy Brett was, in my eyes, the perfect Sherlock Holmes. When I read the books, he was basically who I pictured. I was surprised to see such a close resemblance in a TV actor who could actually meet the requirements of such an Ornate part. And the British were, at the time, the only ones who would dare allow the part of a cocaine swilling Mad Man to come out on television. And on a side note, David Burke was the best Watson of any Ive ever seen. Nicholas Rowe. I was utterly stunned as I watched this young actor pull of a young version of a character I knew by heart. His version of the future detective was one of the best Ive ever seen by anyone, and he wasnt even playing the part of the seasoned veteran, Holmes. I could only imagine the fear of any director asking a mere kid to, not only play one of the greatest folk legends of our time, but to switch it ever so subtlety as to show the probable child he once might have been. By the end of "Young Sherlock Holmes", I was very much wishing it was a series instead of a movie. So now Sherlock Holmes has been moved to the 21st century. I truly thought that I wouldnt make it through 10 mins of this series with out literally breaking my remote to get it off of my set. Instead, my remote was used solely to rewind small intricate parts that the actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, was playing to near perfection, leaving me with smirking smiles most of the way through every episode. I was simply amazed that this actor was pulling off a 130 year old icon while using Laptops and Cellphones as props. Make that four who have pulled it off. Disappointments? Oh yes. I was appalled, and nearly floored, when I learned that only a meager three episodes had been made. I do so hope that someone realizes their mistake soon and brings back the character, "Sherlock".

The BBC adaption of Sherlock is a unique and special experience. In movies and television we have all seen a wide range of versions of our favorite novels. Some of them have been pleasant enough, even likable but unfortunately most fall flat and are extremely disappointing, to say the least. What is so unique about this modern Sherlock adaption is that it stays true to the spirit of the original novels; while still allowing the actors to make them uniquely their own. The actors even evolve with the characters and still, remarkably, stay true to the original source material. A big reason, maybe even the most important one, why this show works so well, is because it is written and produced by fans. Moffat and Gatiss are well respect writers and producers ..but fans they are nonetheless. Their brilliance and talent on top of their love for the original content has not only steered this series in the right direction, not to mention started it out brilliantly, but has allowed the actors chemistry to work, and allowed freedom where needed. The writers, producers and actors of this program are extremely important people. They are busy...they are busy because they are immeasurably talented. Sherlock, the series, is a burden of love. Something these people put aside the time to do. This is a series that works because it is made by genuine fans, and acted by them as well. It is also a series that recognizes its fans ...and says thank you.

Love it. Benedict Cumberbatch makes perfect cold and genius Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Watson is a perfect counterweigh. Both create brilliant duet.

remarkable writing and acting. and even some very impressive camera work, especially for a tv show. what i personally enjoyed the most was the fact that there have been several scenes where i started to feel like a little detective myself, remembering earlier mentioned details and trying to step to conclusions. i felt present. thats the beauty of film, i guess. single point of criticism: i really dont like the idea of those huge cliffhangers. sure, its what keeps people watching, but i think something about the aesthetic of a stories ending gets lost with it. well, maybe thats just my unsatisfied curiousity speaking.

I just finished watching season 3 for the third time. I'm generally not someone who can watch TV shows over and over again. Twice at most and even then the show has to be almost monumental to me. But Sherlock is one of those shows that you can watch again and again and find something new every time. There are subtle nuances, clues, looks, phrases, etc., that you miss watching episodes only once. This is just a fascinating series to me. BEST Sherlock and Watson ever to grace the big or small screen, IMHO.

Actually, unlike Elementary, the American version of Sherlock Holmes now out, I could get into this right away. Guess it is mentality thing? I often find comparing US/UK movie/tv-stuff is like Rugby vs. Football ;). Less flashy, less showy, more down to earth, not that pretty, but a lot rougher on the edges and goes deeper - guess I like that. (guess my karma is going to hell after this comment ;) )

This is by far my favorite incarnation of Sherlock Holmes. You just can't go wrong with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss teaming up. Not to mention the on screen dynamic that Cumberbatch (Holmes) and Freeman (Watson) have. Truly worth watching again and again!!! 10/10

Cannot believe that I put off watching this show for so long! Just finished series one and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Sherlock Holmes much like Dr Who is a difficult role to pull off successfully and considering the fact that this Holmes is now in the 21st century it seems like that would even further complicate things. I thought it would be tough to keep the core of the Holmes character while incorporating all the modern technology, social mores etc.... Moffat wrote the series brilliantly and his cast (Benedict Cumberbatch in particular) are also brilliant. The end result if your a Holmes fan or just a mystery fan in general is a show that absolutely brilliant and a joy to watch. While the short seasons suck cause we want more, they also should end up keeping the show fresh and leave us wanting more.

Count me in--I, too, am a goner for Sherlock. Perfect casting, excellent writing, great acting . . . I cannot heap enough praise on this program. I have also developed a pathetic fangirl crush on Benedict Cumberbatch. Sigh.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are THE perfect Sherlock and Watson. I didn't think I'd enjoy it to begin with, kept putting it off till later. One day I got board and decided to give it a try. I still ask myself WHY on earth I didn't watch it sooner. I'm itching for season 3!

Oh gosh! They've changed the cocaine and tobacco into nicotine patches! That is rich. Great show. Shame their both so handsome, it distracts one from the details.

This series is the best I have seen on tv, and better than some I've seen at a cinema. Two major hopes, one that the 2013 episodes get here soon and two that they don't Americanize it.
