The Karate Kid: 12-year-old Dre Parker could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

This movie was sooo good. Jaden Smith is going to be a great actor just like his mom & dad. Jackie Chan was a great teacher as well. Loved the movie. 2 thumbs up.

Sublime remake of the 80's classic. It felt to me like Jackie Chan played not a role but a homage in picture to Noriyuki Morita. Jaden Smith was also very good but he doesn't have the same charisma Ralph Macchio had back in the days, probably because he's younger than Ralph was back then. But what I loved most from this movie were the temple locations in the stairway sequence, I'd never seen anything like that and it made me want to visit China very badly. Other than that, a great storyline, although not original, they managed to transfer the japanese and karate to chinese and kung-fu, wonderful acting and the message, which passes on important values, that seem to have been even more forgotten through each passing year, since the first Karate Kid's release.

The first version of Karate Kid (1984)was alot better than this crappy one!!! This movie with Jaden was not worth a re-make.

Much better than I expected ... My 6yr old son liked it alot too. They almost lost reality at the end.... But not completely. Was it as good as the original .... No ... But its good in its own right.

I heard alot of crap about this movie when it was first released, but i gotta admit it was very good. Quite alot of emotion & Jackie Chan was on top form for such a different role! Jaden Smith wasn't too shabby either.

In my opinion its not fair to compare both the original and this newer version. Both have good qualities, though the originial is somewhat more believable to me.

FYI, the title contradicts itself because there's no karate in this movie, only kung-fu and there is a difference. They made this movie with Jackie Chan because he's a kung-fu master and Will Smith pretty much bought this movie for his son to be in. It pretty much spits on the originals face having absolutely nothing to do with it and still having the same name. I guess people can look over that because it does give black actors more leading roles, but this wasn't a good way to do it.
