wow , I feel as thoug I have been through a cosmic strom, intsead of watching a movie. It had more nudity than I've ever seen in a drama, with actual sex going on with and without the total nakeness! Erotic, sensual and just a good plan story of a tragic woman, who can't speak and falls in love with the wrong man. The character of the daughter was done well. She changes alligences from her mother, to her new father in the movie. 5/5

5/5. This story is both strange and compelling. Raw in its essence. The hypnotising dance that causes these characters to be bond to each other is astounding and unorthodox. Against all odds and reason they found a common language without words. Jane Campion's weaving of the Maori culture adds a complexity to story and lends a new pair of eyes to the same situation subtly. She is indeed an excellent director and writer. The choices in manipulation of light and cinematography framed the story in the most movingly haunting way. Within the frame that starts out so black and white with shades of grey and brown, a burst of red penetrates it as her life is penetrated by him. Red is found with him and their love and the unravelling as with her hair, ensues. It is one of my favorites and that is what I see and feel when I look at this film.

Jane Campion's beautiful and delicately told story, which has elements of the Gothic in it, of that Victorian sensibility that masks eroticism with fear, mystery and exotic places. Outstanding performances by Holly Hunter, Anna Paquin, Sam Neill and Harvey Keitel. The performances are as original as the characters. The cinematography is absolutely beautiful, and the soundtrack by Michael Nyman is used in such a way so all the elements fit together. Worth a watch... 9/10

scrumptiously romantic yet a bit of sinful pleasures and a bit of erotica just thrilling up the audience spine and quite odd... but yet very intriguing and worth to watch i really enjoy this movie one of my favorites..
