Like many teenagers I studied the book/film back at school. William Golding's masterpiece, something of a rite-of-passage for boys, is a symbolic look into the sadistic side of human nature, symbolic of society and what happens when a bunch of boys who have not had the experience to keep their anger under control learn this lesson the hard way. This is unfortunately lost in this ultra- Americanized adaptation. The film doesn't go into anywhere near the amount of interesting symbolism and psycho-analysis that was present in the book. An enjoyable film, but not as good as the book.

I love this book. Got the 50th anniversary edition a couple months ago. Didn't do bad in the movie adaptions either at all. Honestly, I wouldn't mind a remake. Update it for the masses... Why not? Everything else is being remade. Surprised this hasn't been done recently.. I might have to pull out that book after watching this now.. If you haven't seen the 2 movie renditions, watch them. If you haven't read the book, Shame on you, lol... This ones probably my favorite version of the two.. 5/5 After some searching, turns out there's 3 versions. the 2nd was a '76 Filipino remake with an all female cast called Alkitrang dugo.. Never seen it but sounds interesting.. Also, If you enjoyed this book check out The Coral Island: A Tale of the Pacific Ocean by R. M. Ballantyne. Its where Golding got allot of ideas for LOTF, as well as 'Heart of Darkness' by Joseph Conrad. Heck, check out most of J.C. books if you liked LOTF...

to be honest it was quite a loose adaptation because first of all they are not british not a single bit, theyre all american right up to the cussing and to the accent, and no. 2 ralph is suppose to be blonde, well hes not, jack is. and jack is supposed to be ugly, jack looks too much of a fallen angel here to be ugly. and yeah.. they are all too pretty to be what was described in the book... but i was not disappointed though.. fantastic movie! 8.5/10

One of the best movies based on a book that I have seen. This movie really draws you in and makes you root for Ralph. Balthezar Getty does an amazing job of portraying Ralph. Both the book and the movie cause you to take a look at yourself and wonder what you would do in a similar situation. 10/10

so after watching this movie and reading through some of the comments its hard to see how anyone can not see the actual meaning behind the story. pretty much everything in this movie has a deeper figurative meaning. As for the movie in its self it was very good a great watch. probably not suited for people who cant look past whats right in front of them. 7/10 (one of the deeper meanings behind the story which in no way what so ever is a spoiler is the name, the lord of the flies which is another name for Beelzebub or the price of hell A.K.A the devil)

I had given up the search a while back when it popped up in the "similar movies". I actually prefer this to the 1963 version, but both are great. Naturally neither film compares to the book, but the basic allegory is still there. Human nature, civilized life vs. following impulse, adolescent cruelty etc. Highly recommended.

ralph sucked as a leader. he should have took Jack out in the beginning and things would have worked out alot better. the book was great this movie was ok the kids acting made me cringe at times it was bad 2.5/5

Just watched this after so many years. I really loved this movie and book growing up. Now as an adult, I was hit hard by what happens to these young kids. wow. I have to say with the movie industry being how it is, how has the ball been dropped in not making a part 2 to this excellent story. I would love to know what happens to all these young men after the events on this island and into adulthood. great movie. a must watch. 5/5

I remember watching this movie in the 9th grade and it was eye opening to notice that these things can really happen

Talk good or bad about the movie, but this packs a punch when you read it. Now it's about the movie adaptions. Good film, but read the story and realize what stories are meant to be.

Shocking but awesome movie. Everyone should watch it twice, once as a teen then later on as an adult. Of course, the book is better, but... Note, stagvu.com has the best soundtrack out of all of the above options, and I recommend reading comments by epik_k0 just before mine...very true.

Honestly, this was an incredible adaptation of the book. Very faithful. If you're a fan of the book, this definitely isn't a "the book was better" situation. Check it out!

Such a classic! I liked it a lot, I laughed how the skinniest whitest kid ended up becoming the 'bad guy', reminds me of the milkybar kid or something. Anyway the movie has a look a group of young boys taken outside of our society battle vs moral and animalistic behaviours. It's as though reality was lost, then found again.

Pretty good movie with solid performance by the actors. It felt realistic bt i wish the director emphasized more on how they gradually turn to savagery rather than just do it after a few scenes.
