didn't really scare me because my first time seeing it is at 25, 25 years after it was made. but i can definitely see why it would've been scary in 1990. I like that the friends have this sandlot-esque friendship, totally different genre i know but that's what they remind me of. The clown is just creepy, i didn't think of clowns that way before but i may have to now. i had no idea it was 3 hours long, but worth it.

As if clowns weren't scary enough. Well, I'm sleeping with the light on and a chair against my door, and something balancing on said chair just in case. Just in case...

'Float On' by Modest Mouse has a different meaning after seeing this for the first time. 'Kiss me fatboy!' haha

You really do HAVE to take into account that this is a made for TV movie from the 80's...That being said, it ain't bad after all these years. Tim Curry steals the show now as he did then. It's a good story, and they stay fairly faithful to the book, but certainly not completely. The book is one of Stephen King's longer ones, so they really HAD to cut out some things. I guess the big question is: Is it scary? It does get creepy in some scenes, and the Pennywise scenes are generally very good. It's not as scary as I like my horror movies to be, but like I said at the top, it is a made for TV movie from the 80's. I'm sure they couldn't get too intense even if they wanted to in order to keep as many potential viewers as possible.. As a bit of nostalgia it's pretty good to see again. I'm not sure it would do all that much for first time viewers though. Me? I'll take the nostalgia trip quite happily!

It all comes down to the power of belief. If you believe something strongly enough, you'll think it's real, even if it's a mere illusion. People tend to indulge in fear far too much, believe their worst critics, and succumb to cowardice. Pennywise is a hideous manifestation of the fear, the cowardice, and the self-hatred that eats away at us, and against which we must take a stand in order to defeat.Turns out, Pennywise is fear made manifest, a fear that courage, self-realization, love, and friendship ultimately thwart. With that said, the monster at the end was superfluous.

I'm a big SK fan and very often films made from his books do not translate well. This, perhaps, is an exception. Well worth a watch.
