orwell wouldnt be supprised that in kind of happened , but he would be suprised that it was driven by the people not the government , web cams , face book , satalite tracking on phones, 4square ...all of our tiniest details are given up so willingly ....we dont have to have monitoring forced on us , we do it to ourselves

I always bring up this movie and the original 1954 one to people when talking about the way our government is trying to control every part of our lives, and even though I may agree with some on Bush being tricky himself, its the Democrats who are doing the whole government take over thing, why you think they balled out the banks and the car companies, and are now trying to force everyone to have government health care whether they want it or not? They are the ones trying to pass laws to keep fast food places from having really large soft drinks, and some would like to get rid of them all together, their also behind taking are right to own a gun, when history has shone that every country that has done that has turned on their people and became totally communist, and killed anyone who the didn't like! Now sure I don't really like or trust the Right wing side ether, especially the Tea Party nuts, but if we get a more Reagan type in I would be fine with it, which is why I hope Mitt Romney is a Reagan type! So many are bible thumpers now a days, and can be hard to tell who is the worst, but I think you need to think about just how much change can one side make, and right now the Democrats seem to be able to get more of their crazy shit pass then the Right do,and until a new and better party comes around that has a snow balls chance in the Sahara of getting in, I will have to go with the right for now, and cross my fingers while he's in that he doesn't do something crazy too while in! OH and by the way, both 1984 movies are great, as is the movie Brazil!

Good Adaptation of the Book. I still prefer the book over the movie; as the movie for some reason was just terribly boring. In my mind's eye it was alot more entertaining and deep while reading it from the book. Makes you open your eyes to the complete BS the Governements of today are churning out and the majority populous who just take what they are told wihtout question. Blaming the problems on whatever the Gov't says is the problem. Even when the truth is in front of them and dictated to them they still ignore it, and complain about something more trivial calling it the real "big problem". On another note... Hhkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk haaaaakkkkkkkk ppttttttppppp good grief that bush was woolly. That thing looked like a small fro.

it is amazing how he wrote this book so long ago and how very correct he was about the future we live in most of the comments on here all say o this might be the future or probable future and comments like that just go to show how deep big brother already is in our minds because i hate to be the one to tell folks and god knows they hate hearing it but this is the now this is happening every single day maybe its slightly exagerated but only SLGHTLY all that talk about the party and there are still americans who are so stupid that they beleive having two parties is somehow different or that they would do diffrent things or have diffrent agendas or opinions lol they may as well be the same party but they have to make the illusion of choice and we all clap our hands and try to beleive like were at a damn magic show orwell had a message that is as true now as it was then "WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE"

All of this is powerful and thought-provoking stuff, and helps to make "Nineteen Eighty Four" an accurate and powerful rendering of a still very timely piece of work.

This film is a total mind fuck, we have been living like this in one way or another for years, it may not be as blatant as this, but it has taken momentum and made more possible, because of one significant event in the last 11 years. I choose to keep my eyes open and stay wide awake; War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength... very poignant!

Incredibly intense and frightening film. The acting was superb. Very powerful, very thought-provoking. I will remember this film forever. The end sent chills up my spine. This is a must see! Brilliant film, brilliant novel. 5/5.

I remember reading the book 1984 when I was about 15 years old. The end was chilling to me, and I could not imagine living in that kind of society. How naieve of me not to recognise that I was living in it then as I believe so many of us in so many different countries are living in it now. This adaptation of the book is very true to that chilling story and a great tribute to that great work by Orwell. Worth a watch for anyone feeling cynical about your government and society. Wonderful acting, a story that asks 'What if?' and follows that question to a logical conclusion. 5/5 for this classic.

I'm going to assume that everyone's breaking point would be vicious, gnawing, attacking rats, I'm right no? Is it safe to say that Orwell's Big Brother may have inspired Rodenberry's Borg Collective? Having not read the book and not sure I got it all from the film, I believe the gist to be 'big brother has the ultimate power to stripe you of what you believe is the truth, the right to love or hope, etc. REBUILDS you in their image and then take your life once you've betrayed them but not before having you publicly admit how crazy you were to have ideals, hopes, dreams, etc.?' He was broken though, wasn't he? he wrote 4+4= (empty space); which suggests to me that he doesn't know until Big Brother tells him? And that declaration of love came after Julia left but also after that propaganda piece about how Big Brother just won some major victory...so who does he love? Can someone please message me if I getting this right, thanks.

Incredible movie. Amazing feat of cinema. One of the best movies of all time. The atmosphere, the look of the film was very sombre and depressing, but top notch for the subject matter. I loved the movie 8/10.

Richard Burton and John Hurt. Win win with those two. It's also interesting to note just how controversial this book was to the point that even the USA and UK almost banned it. Check it out if you like Orwell books.

Cannot be compared to the original, but it's still good to watch. It goes beyond the first movie, but at the same time, it lost some of the story. To think there are goverments like that. And that it can turn that way in the future....

Striking film about possibilities of goverment or should that be probabilities...

An amazing well-thought out movie. Of course, you have to give the credit George Orwell, who wrote the book.
