A good re-watch after just seeing the 2014 remake. This one is so much better as far as: the compelling storyline, the acting, the filming location and the hauntingly, chilling musical score. But it still does not do the Novel any justice, so much was left out. The book was so much more powerful. I will give this a 6/10 mainly because of Louise Fletcher's terrifying performance.

I'm re-watching this to get the remake out of my head :S Despite the bad acting and the omission of some key parts that were in the book, this version will always be the best one. Watch this version, then watch the remake. Then judge for yourself. 9/10

I'm so disappointed in this movie. It stuck to the novel in the details but completely ignored major events. Incest was a major them in the novel but it was not at all a major theme in the movie. I was annoyed by the ending as it was completely different from the book. I don't think the acting for this movie was good at all, Chris and Cathy were way too old. Sadly the book was butchered and I didn't enjoy watching this very much 2/10. If you want something that actually resembles the book the 2014 remake is your best bet. WAY better than this.

I enjoyed this film (and no I have not read the book). This movie "Flowers in the Attic" in a way is similar to a film from 15 years earlier called "Demons of the Mind" (1972) - both films are good. If you like one then you might like the other. 9/10

This movie was incredible, by the looks of the comments I am debating just not watching the remake at all, I hate spoiling movies. If you're going to watch it, just stick with this version to be safe! Sick and twisted movie, was very very good.

Great movie. I've been meaning to watch it for quite a while and I am glad I finally got around to it. It has Louise Fletcher in it. Same woman who played Nurse Rachet from One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. Let me just say, she is wonderful at playing an insufferable bitch. 8/10

Still as good as the 1st time I watched it long ago, much better acting than the remake of 2014. Wish they made a movie of all in the series. May have to reread the books now just for the heck of it. Thanks for the links. 5/5

Decent movie. The awesome filming location and creepy, atmospheric soundtrack makes this movie pretty cool. Only complaint is the acting may not be up to par for some. I think it's well cast and wasn't bad for me though. Louise Fletcher has an insane screen presence in this. It's not much like the book, but I prefer to see it separately anyways. Moody, dark drama, and a little disturbing. Always liked this movie.

The real star of this odd movie, which was based on the (always) odd work of the late V.C. Andrews, is the ethereal soundtrack. Gorgeous music; it has just the right mixture of innocence and sorrow.

I really wish they would remake this movie and follow along the books a little better. They changed a lot of things drastically and made it impossible to continue the story (based on the books), but perhaps that was the point. Oh well, this story was one of my favorite V.C. Andrews stories!

Never read the books but I'd like to. I rate this 4/5 stars. This is a rather disturbing movie but it was well done.

for those of you who didn't read the books yet i suggest to read the 5 books first and then watch this movie, and for those who dont know the books are based on a real life story,i read the books when i was 14 and that all becouse i was curious to know what type of books could get my mother to spend 400 dollar's, sins my mother is the type of person who won't spend more then 200 dollars on anything, and then out of the blue she goes and buy a set of 5 books, and this is a person who rather watch day time soap dramas all day in stead of reading books.so when my mother spend a total of 4 months reading 5 thick books it got me curious and as soon i start to read the books i was hooked,i laugh i cried and i hated the mother and grandmother, this story show you what people can do for money and power, sins that day i became a big fans of actress kristy swanson together with novel writer anne rice
