Whenever anyone mentions their favorite trilogy (The original Star Wars films, The first three Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings etc.) I always list the Mad Max trilogy as my personal fave. An excellent and imaginative look at a dystopian pre (and then post) apocalyptic world. A lot of people will say that the second film, The Road Warrior, is the best of this trilogy but for me it's Mad Max all the way. Something about the raw grittiness of it (due to the films very low budget) gives it a sense of hopelessness and despair that works incredibly well for the atmosphere of this film. An absolute classic that I love and find myself rewatching at least once a year.

Great film; stands the test of time - the originator of so many copycat "dystopian future" films. Favourite scene is the last one, with the cuffs and the hacksaw. The second was the best but this is great - Good Australian film, with all the weirdo scag villains being gays

I felt that the first half was kind of muddled and then I got interested when he was forced to take a vacation. It also ended so abruptly! It was interesting nonetheless.

Mad Max (1979) is a low budget Aussie film that became a huge success in the U.S. because of it's sequel Mad Max 2 a.k.a. The Road Warrior. Not only did this movie spawned a franchise but it created a new genre of film (the post apocalyptic wasteland/road film) many rip-offs and pro wrestlers inspired by the movie and it's sequels. Mel Gibson (in his greatest role in my opinion) stars as "Mad" Max, a cop who has seen too much while trying to enforce the law in a dying society. After clashing with the Night Rider, he incurs the wrath of his bikie buddies Toecutter and co. Toecutter has to be one of the most scuzziest and at the same time coolest bad guys. I like the way he tries to justify him and his crew's actions. Ditto for his right-hand man Bubba. Beautiful cinematography, fast paced action and awesome stunts make this movie a winner. I have seen both versions of the movie (the U.S. dubbed version and the original Aussie soundtrack). For full enjoyment stick to the original version because they sound like real people, not like cartoon characters or cheesy b-movie villains. A true winner. Highly recommended.

My favorite trilogy... In a dystopian future, a few police 'bronze' wage war on nomad bikers on the roads of Australia. Brutal. If there's only one of the films you want to watch of the three...i recommend mad max 2 (the road warrior) 4/5

"The Road Warrior" is a justly praised classic. However, let's not forget the high octane original! Not since Eastwood rode onto the screen in "A Fistfull of Dollars" and became legend, has there been such a mythic, icon creating movie role. Mel Gibson- a leather-clad, muscle car driving bad*ss-is the perfect anti-hero. The film is car chase nirvana! The camera-work is breath-taking. The direction of George Miller still underrated. This movie has an unrelenting pace that you don't see anymore. An Essential film....
