Best Actor On Planet Earth! Daniel Day-Lewis!

This movie is too artistic for my taste. The artistry in this piece just goes over the top; The male lead displays traits of masochism, and the female lead is sinister (you'll realize). So sit through and enjoy their interplay. You'll find elements of submissiveness and dominance in both - but not the sexual, but rather mental kind. Don't get the wrong idea. This is NOT a sexual movie. The scenes are mostly quiet and mellow, but the leads abuse each other mentally - which seems to be their normal state of mind - and towards the end the audience is supposed to accept that those two really enjoy it and it's ok. I didn't like this concept, because it's difficult to relate to. Some elements are, but one particular just isn't acceptable, even for artistic/unique minds. You'll understand once you watch it. Overall it's a unique concept, and the character of Alma might be the only 'dark' muse I've seen lately. A muse doesn't always have to be a bright character that uplifts and inspires you. It can also be a sinister character like in this movie. Someone who drops you so low, that once you get back to your feet, you're able to move mountains. I'd probably watch it again at some point, just to understand it more, but for now, first impression, weird 3/5.

3/5 beautiful but horrible boring, all this Anderson's narration is hard to watch. Not my vibes. Three Bilboards....still the best imho.

Gorgeous to look at and some fine scenes, but PT Anderson's style of storytelling evades me. As with MAGNOLIA and a few of his previous projects, the film ended and one thought came to mind: "What was all that about?"

Prententious rubbish. I had been waiting ages to watch this and am thoroughly disappointed. Daniel Day Lewis is brilliant, and the leads did their best, but the story just didn't cut it. I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy myself and kept looking at my watch. How disappointing.

Daniel Day-Lewis embodies a character so completely that it's a real delight to watch him work. I also loved the way that the close up camera work in this movie creates such intimacy for the viewer. Impeccable acting by Vicky Krieps and Leslie Manville, as well.

What is happening to the quality of our movies? Are they being made to appeal to new tastes or are the makers forcing crap upon us thinking we will be afraid to call it for fear of seeming crass and tasteless? I admit I must be part of the latter. This was an OK one time watch. It reminded me of the highly touted French film about the old married couple with the photo albums. As someone earlier commented, "Too artsy, fartsy for me." Sorry, Daniel Day Lewis. Your last film will not be remembered as one of your best. 6/10

Unlike some of the reviewers, I thoroughly enjoyed the interplay between Daniel Day Lewis and his muse, Alma. Although both were somewhat sadistic, their cat and mouse games seemed to be how they showed love for one another. I found this relationship intriguing considering the odds of finding your perfect match who equally enjoys twisting the human heart. The reserved, quiet sister was outstanding as the foil to Day Lewis's demands and immature behavior. She could crush him in a minute if she chose to though. I think he deserves an Oscar for this. 8/10

Beautifully, Hypnotic and Dark. Don't question and try to complain what was so and not so, just enjoy, apparently, one of the last great performances by Mr.Daniel Day and be content in this meetings of mastery that the talents here in, have produced, with this piece. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to see this in such detail so big thank you to up-loaders and again Primewire!

I was waiting for Daniel to scream you are a baby from a baskett gtfo!!!! but it did not happen, nice picture and time period scenery , ok dialogue but it just was a bit boring, I hope he changes his mind and does not retire, this film is worth a look but that is it.

It’s so beautiful but quite odd. I had finally watched There Will Be Blood a couple of months ago, and seeing Daniel Day Lewis be that character and now this one is really quite amazing. This story kind of makes sense, but I’m no artsy fartsy film critic and yet, even though I loved the beautiful scenery and the whole era this film encompasses, I felt like a real outsider who wasn’t quite allowed into the souls of the characters. And I don’t know why. I do know I wanted to punch Alma when she was scraping her teeth on the spoon eating, though, and that normally doesn’t phase me in real life. I think she’s sort of a pig, lol.

A very unique, intimate and elegantly crafted masterpiece! The great dialogue pulled me right in and made it that more engaging for me. I felt a direct connection to the obsessive artist's creative process which many times made me laugh. A rare, well done romance that went straight to my favourites. Farewell Daniel Day-Lewis, you're an amazing actor and will be missed! I give this 5/5 stars ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

If you don't see the story, you need to watch again, ... This movie is like a good book, you see the moments up close, but you have space to judge for yourself, to make up your own thoughts about the characters and to decide if you like the one or the other and - what it's all about, come on, is "artsy" a code for too demanding, it's a rather simple storyline, even when the characters are not.

Something in this film felt very forced, the love-hate motivations in most of the story are incongruous and the final arrangements highly unrealistic, the music obsessively deafening and repetitive ...and yet the choreography, the lush costumes, the period reconstruction, the subtle acting by Daniel Day Lewis make it almost bearable, but not remarkable enough in the end,not to deserve all the acclaims for future awards( Baftas or Oscars),not to be remembered as DDL last contribution to a magnificent acting career...hopefully he'll change his mind....7/10.

Excellent classical romance with a twist. Not much of a storyline but the acting makes up for it.

I have to watch this because of all the buzz, Some of the comments make me fear I will be wasting time but we will see. If it is too artsy I will be put off. A few years back someone took the tragic story of Anna Karenina and made it unwatchable for me but the critics raved. I will be back.

It sort of reminded me of one of those romances you read online...like the Billionaire Bachelor Club. Beautiful clothing, and scenery. Not much story, but it was sweet.

I love this film. It's a character piece focusing on the two leads (and to an extent the supporting actor in the Assistant). So while the story is minimal, it serves to allow the actors to unfurl the levels of complexity in their characters, which they all do quite amazingly. The score is incredible too. It was made by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead fame and it stands on it's own as a gorgeous piece of modern classical music. But everything about this film is stunning really.

Beautifully done with excellent acting, yet the story did nothing for me. I have always been a fan of Daniel Day Lewis but this was my least favorite film I have seen him in. It was a story with passion but yet quite cold of emotion.
