Long and boring and probably a sure Oscar winner which won't make any money before but might after ...and Stewie Spielberg can rub a big message into Donald Trump's face in the process. Oh wait...a movie made by a super rich jew starring an ignorant uptight actress and an anglo-saxonian actor ...where are the SJW now??? No ethnic actors in prominent roles, no female directors and surely no flavor of the month harassment issues to propaganda.....goes to show you Hollywood does get away with anything when it wants to

Gross, glad I'm not a liberal. I would have to pretend how amazing and transcendent this POS is.

While as a journalist, I will forever be thankful for the Supreme Court's ruling on the Pentagon Papers, I'm not sure how compelling it was going to be as a subject of a movie. Even one directed by Stephen Spielberg. In the end, I really enjoyed it. But let's not pretend this is nothing more than a Spielberg/Tom Hanks vanity project. It is a bit methodical, somewhat melodramatic with an ending everyone already knows. In short, All The President's Men this is not. Performances all around are beyond admirable. Each actor really sinks into his/her role. And props need to go especially to Meryl Streep to captured Katherine Graham to haunting perfection. Being a fan of newspaper history, especially WaPo, I had read Graham's "Personal History." There's where Spielberg, in my opinion, should have focused. Not on this one incident, but instead on Graham herself. Beside leading such a storied publication, Graham herself is a true lioness of our profession, and maybe even more compelling than simply the Pentagon Papers. But that's neither here nor there. "The Post" will not have wide appeal to the general audience. It's probably too plodding for some, and maybe even a little preachy in light of today's political reality. "The Post" is a film for film buffs and students, one where Spielberg demonstrates how he can take what otherwise would be a mundane scene between a lawyer and a reporter and film it into a work of art. Spielberg does a tremendous job capturing the atmosphere of a newspaper and the personalities, drive and conviction of journalists. But again, Jaws...Indiana Jones...this is not. As I said earlier, this is part of Spielberg's latter-career vanity projects. Hey, he's earned it.

5/5 Excellent, timely story, well-written, finely performed. The violent opening is not exploitative and is never shown again after those first few minutes. Just enough to give this story context - how vile these people treated their own nation. More importantly, how kind, loving, honorable people united courageously and protected freedom. BTW, the pace fits the time period covered. Great positive images of women and girls. ETA - So it's not a spoiler I'll just just say, I don't know how ~that woman~ didn't break McNamara's nose. Well, I guess choices like that fit her own values - the pen is mightier than the sword.

i love how [while distrust in corporate media is at all time lows and] soon after jeff bezos (owner of amazon) buys the washington post and hops in bed with the CIA, all of a sudden you have a bunch of movies being released that celebrate the washington post for exposing gov't bullshit. oh, the timing...

Nicely done paper caper in the capable hands of Spielberg. Weaving old television newscasts and the Nixon tapes into the script, along with vintage props and set design, really helps give the look and feel of 1971. Streep and Hanks have good working chemistry together. There's also a touching scene with Streep and Alison Brie which reveals the motivation for a monumental decision made by owner Katharine Graham (Streep). Still, the movie is probably about 15 minutes too long, since some of the exposition in the second act could have been cut out. Overall though, a very good movie. 8/10

I really enjoyed this movie. I am aware of the enormous ramifications passed down by the supreme court, in upholding this nations constitution. Although not the point of the movie at all, what I found fascinating is just how far we have come from a technological aspect. I loved the scenes where they showed how much effort, time, and space it took to create one news edition. Today, as we know, this has mostly been replaced by computers. Anyone, just by using their phone, can publish anything at a moments notice available instantly to the media at large. All in all, great movie!!

Watch "The Pentagon Papers" with James Spader instead. Much better movie. Then follow it up with "The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers" documentary and Discovery Channel's Watergate three-part documentary series.

Great story, wonderful cast, and excellent director, so you would expect a great movie...but sadly, it is not.

Interesting, but obvious attempt to rehabilitate the reputation of print media, a dying breed. Fine acting and fairly well executed, yet, just didn't have the impact or connection like I'm used to experiencing in Spielberg movies. 6/10

More like an Oliver Stone movie....it beats you over the head with the same "this is the message" - don't lecture us. It's just propaganda.

This movie was very good! Once again however, too many uneducated whiners bring it down because they don't want to use their own brains when watching a movie. Instead they want everything spoon fed to them. If something isn't blowing up every 5 minutes, they find the movie boring!
