Thanks for the new upload! This is a wonderful and emotionally powerful coming of age story about a dysfunctional family ruled by a manic depressive, and at times abusive father. It's Woody Harrelson's best performance in years. If he doesn't get an Oscar for this, something is wrong. And this is Brie Larson's best performance since Room. Naomi Watts is also note perfect as the dutiful yet helpless wife and mother. Great direction and a haunting music score elevate this story to a high level. I don't often cry from movies but this one had me in tears by the end. A must watch ! 9/10.

A real, raw and riveting account of a loving but troubled family, filled with one heartbreaking scene after another. The story-telling, the acting are all top-notch. Definitely worth a look. Bring tissues.

If you liked this book/movie, look for the book "Half Broke Horses" which is about Walls' grandmother. So so good.

this movie reminds me of somethings my mom went through as a child. She was the youngest of nine and a twin. and grew up in West VA. She was 11 yrs old when her dad was tied in bed because he wanted to come of the liquor. He had done it 9 times before but that last time had a seizure and died. This movie is really sad but I think of it as a piece of history that happened to a few families back then and gives the new generation a new perspective on life especially when it comes to drinking.

I prefer the book, however, the movie isn't awful. A sold two stars.

Heartwarming and heartbreaking over and over throughout the whole film. An added bonus to see the real people of this story in the outtakes.

Excellent quality copy. This movie was pretty good. Always like seeing Harrelson truly identify with this character. The children are great too. Hits you right in the feels.

I read this book sometime back not knowing they were making a movie and I remember thinking "they should make a movie and cast Woodie Harrelson as the father in this" - then I guess in August I saw the trailers and was pleasantly surprised - if you haven't read it do so then watch when a better copy comes out - I will be surprised if this fails to garner an Oscar nomination or two. I'll review the movie when a better copy comes out but I think anyone who loves life, people, the south the southwest, crazy family dynamics - will love this

"To all families who, despite their scars, still find a way to love." ~ This was the bi-line written under the credits at the very end. Something very powerful kept this family together, which often isn't the case. Emotional difficulties usually get in the way of having successful lives, and bitterness and resentment will destroy a family's foundation. I was glad to see that no matter what else they may have had to deal with, they made it a priority to love one another, and stay connected. Very good movie; glad I watched.

The kids (actors) did an amazing job. I liked seeing the real family at the end. A very hard book to put on the big screen - a lot was left out. What I took away was the love, bond, and fortitude of the sisters and brother. Expect trigger(s) for anyone who's suffered similarly or experienced true hunger (past and present). Kleenex recommended. 8/10

I think this is actually a pretty good copy, but then again I'm not that picky. It is dark in some scenes, but it's still very watchable to me. Excellent movie! I've been waiting for this! Why isn't this in the featured section?

great acting, of course, woody harrelson is a proven performer. this is a story worth telling and watching. most of us can relate to some of the happennings in this film. not for the faint of heart; anyone who has lived or been dependent on an alcoholic or addict knows its a crazy out of control, dangerous ride

This one kept my full attention throughout the entire movie. It was both heartwarming, and heartbreaking. Woody did a fantastic job with this character, as did the rest of the cast. Thanks so much to the up linkers!
