Excellent modernization of the Shakespeare chestnut. This was filmed in Whedon's home and features scenes that are brilliantly imagined. Really makes the modern setting for the Bard's English work. Friends of mine who know the play inside-out were laughing their asses off.

How thoroughly enjoyable a film is this?! I've read the play, I've seen a few different screen adaptations of it- this version is, by far, the most unique and enjoyable one of all! A great and talented cast, a fine adaptation, sublime cinematography and wonderfully presented in terms of set, wardrobe and style. Well done, Mr. Whedon!

This movie just didnt do it for me. The dialogue seemed strained and forced. Really felt the actors did a poor job. And the modern setting didn't seem to work for me. Were they actual princes or was that just leaving the dialogue intact?

One of the best adaptations I have seen. Modernization done very well. even though it's not word-for-word as some would prefer, I found it very enjoyable and re-watchable.

This one doesn't do it for me. The acting is pale and if you don't know what is going on, you won't learn it by their inflections. Branagh's version of this play is brilliant...gorillavid is running that one...worth while checking it out....it has much more feeling and merit.

As a rule I am no fan of "modernized" Shakespeare nor any other Classical arts - DiCaprio's "Romeo and Juliet" was beyond atrocious although I admit that 1995 Fishburne's "Othello" was well done - but this play was wonderful. Despite "modern weapons" and other toys...hand guns, cell phones, etc. they weren't used in any distasteful manner (Rome and Juliet was so 'Blood and Crypt' I thought I'd puke). The acting was actually very "Shakespearian" despite the use of a fair number of younger actors. Very well done, and very entertaining. 5/5

I don't really get into Shakespeare much, so I avoided this movie when it came out, even though I'm probably one of the biggest Joss Whedon fans you'll ever see. Today I decided to watch it, as it's the only project of Joss' I've yet to watch, and I'm sure glad I did! Everyone did an excellent job, and any Joss Whedon fan will recognize a LOT of faces, which just made it even more enjoyable!

A surprisingly engaging film with a lovely visual style and a strong sense of humour. Watch if you're able to embrace Shakespearean text if presented well.

GorillaVid, version 11, is the 1993 film with Richard Briars and whole host of international stars.

An enjoyable adaptation, though far from my favorite. The added history between Benedick and Beatrice was an interesting setup, though on hindsight, didn't make much sense. Especially since Benedick implies she's pure and virtuous after overhearing his friends imply she likes him. Plus, Alexis Denisof had a strange way of reciting his lines which really pulled me out of his scenes - not as bad as Keanu Reeves, but I honestly expected better. Still, any fan of Shakespeare or Joss Whedon will likely enjoy this!
