After Newtown: Guns in America: After Newtown: Guns in America is an unprecedented exploration of America's enduring relationship with firearms. From the first European settlements in the New World to frontier justice; from 19th Century immigrant riots to gangland violence in the Roaring Twenties; from the Civil War to Civil Rights, guns have been at center of our national narrative for four hundred years. Americans have relied on guns to sustain communities, challenge authority, and keep the peace. Efforts to curtail their distribution and ownership have triggered epic political battles. On one side, the cry for gun control gets louder with each mass shooting. And on the other, Charlton Heston's 2000 rallying cry, "From my cold, dead hands," still resonates across the land. Featuring the personal reflections of Bill Cosby, Frank Serpico, and NRA President David Keene, among other experts and advocates, this unique documentary will examine the evolution of guns in America, their frequent link to violence, and the clash of cultures that reflect competing visions of our national identity.

I avoided watching this for awhile do in part to the fact that I thought it was going to be a bias politically motivated film. This documentary is really more about the history of guns and the development of it's technology than anything else. Yes, there are some views from both sides of the coin from people that have felt the effects of violence and the use of guns but it's not taken one particular side in a debate. Pretty interesting film. 6/10

American Independence was more due to help from a French King more than anything.

Relax people. In the US, gun-related deaths are only 10 per 100,000 population (one one hundredth of one percent). And here's what the media fails to tell you: 60% of those gun-related deaths are suicides.

I completely agree that if you have to pass a driving test to get a drivers license, you should ALSO have to pass rigorous virtual reality tests on your reflexes to own a gun. And the 'right to bear arms' was written for THE MILITIA!! Just like with religion, we need to get current with this sh!t and look at what we've become. American's have a gun FETISH!!

The way I understand it, the weapon is the thing responsible for all of the deaths involving weapons, so wouldn't it make more sense to imprison the firearm?
