Being a great fan of Tolkien, I think Peter Jackson has once again captured the essence of these tales. He can put more of the story in The Hobbit than he could in Lord of the Rings, however, as it's a much shorter tale and he's made the right decision to do it over three parts. Great cast, immersive tale, fantastic sets, costumes and cinematography... and, of course, a wonderful soundtrack. I think these movies, along with his LOTR trilogy, will go down in history and will be very hard to better if remade in the future. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Now granted the Lord Of The Rings movies were masterpieces so yes this really does not measure up the the Lord Of the Rings. However it is still an excellent movie in my opinion, great storyline GREAT acting. Not as good as the book but they being said overall they did an amazing job with it, there are a few flaws but I am not going to go into detail overall I give this a 4.5/5

'Stop. Stop! We'll have to go back. I forgot my handkerchief.' 'You will have to manage without pocket-handkerchiefs, and a good many other things, before you get to the journey's end.' Even when I read The Hobbit back in 1978, these were my favorite lines. These words signify the end of something safe and the beginning of an unknown adventure. Often, when people around me have gotten scared or complain about things, I've quoted that line to them, 'You will have to manage without pocket-handkerchiefs, and a good many other things, before you get to the journey's end.' Once I tell them it's a quote from 'The Hobbit,' no further explanation is required. They usually just grin. One of my favorite books of all time. The movie is very good but not even the great Peter Jackson can come close a child's imagination while reading the book. One thing I really didn't like about this movie, though, was the Goblin King with the huge wobbly chin bag and his silly songs. He looked and sounded so cartoonish that it was really out of character and took me out of the movie.

when this film was in the cinema I was suprised by my dad. he HATES science fiction or any sort of supernatural/fantasy, but he actually liked this one, and that says alot because doesn't like Lord of the rings trilogy so the fact that he liked this one surprised me. I was all for it, and I LOVE LOTR trilogy as well :D Can't wait for the Hobbit - the desolation of Smaug one - LEGOLAS <3 :)
