If you enjoy 50 Shades of Grey, it's either because you don't read enough books or you don't watch enough porn.

Wow, everyone! Nearly every comment made about this book was hastily one way or the other. No grey area *buh dum Chhh!* (I'm so funny) But seriously, why must we be so judgemental. Don't like the book? Don't read it! You like the book and others judge you for it? Fuck 'em! Who cares! Can't we all just get along?

horrible book. it was written as twilight FAN FICTION and then converted into it's own story. it isn't even good porn, her writing is atrocious and it's really funny how many people think this is a good book.

The human brain is such a complex labyrinth. I really can't comprehend how 'Fifty Shades of Grey' has managed to accumulate so much hype.

This book IS bad. I read it out of morbid curiousity more than anything and I found it to be more poorly written than Twilight and THAT'S saying something! The story line is flimsy at best and the main characters aren't relatable AT ALL. Christian Grey belongs behind bars. side note: it's a slightly more extreme version of 9 1/2 weeks with Mickey Rourke and Kim Bassinger. Watch that and tell me it's not basically the same story.

I'm a book reading and I really can't understand why this book is so popular.

There's zero plot. How can anyone read this crap? If I read a book I need to like the characters and care where the story goes.. but these "characters" are just cardboard cut outs. just mindless sh!t, but no wonder since the author wrote it as Twilight fanfiction.

I'm a woman and I just don't get the hype with these books. I read all three and all I could think was, what a stupid ass woman she is. Embarassing actually. I realize she was a fictional character but still.

9 1/2 Weeks meets twilight meets wild orchid meets pretty woman... nothing new its what everyone wants someone who makes them feel wanton for more, oh and he's a billionaire!!!

The books are a rip-off of Twilight. Read them side by side and see what I mean. Can't see what all the fuss is about especially since E.L. James went and copied most of it word for word. Shameful that no one else has noticed. Must be all the sex. Now I know the end of the world is imminent when trash like this is considered the best thing since sliced bread.

Judith Krantz, Rosemary Rogers, Jacqueline Suzzane, Harold Robbins, now those were/are some authors who can write explicit novels with a good story, plot etc. I read the 1st of the Gray series and was waiting for SOMETHING of relevance to happen other than the sex every other page. Was torture trying to get through it, On book 2 now and the lame dialogue is just killing me and she is just dumber than a box of rocks. If I even get through this one within a month it will be a freaking miracle. I really don't see what all the hoopla was about, I read sexier novels when I was 16.

I thought this was a movie, not a documentary. Anyways if you are looking for both erotic and a good story line you should look up Laurell K Hamilton series of Anita Blake and Princess Merideth. Both series have a very interesting strong woman as a main character that ends up a badass with a harem of her own. Even though there is plenty of naughty scenes they have a great story that grabs you and makes you want to find the next book. This honestly doesn't compare, I never read 50 shades of gray and really don't want to now.

This book is essentially just a copy off of Twilight without the supernatural aspects, and it was written by someone who clearly has no clue how to write at all. What a piece of shit. I guess it's time to open up Word and start typing some random nonsense because clearly people have no taste whatsoever and will buy whatever shit they can get.

here's the problem; this is a misconception; (It was clearly written for a crowd that enjoys erotic romance novels.) Erotic romance doesn't exists (Paranormal romance writer here) There is no romance in erotica, its girl sees guy, girl does guy, girls moves on; because that is what the genre is all about. Erotic stories by industry don't have to have a plot ( which is why people like me who write paranormal romance with elements of eroticism, get soooooooooooo f'n pissed when they label us the same as what Erotic writers write, which is also the reason why Romance gets bashed so!) Anyway, this isn't romance, its titillation, and nothing more. We are not all the same, my books have plots, (strong female characters!) and are nothing like that. Just don't lump us all together please ;)

I guess what sells is the idea of sex, the kind that most women want but seldom get, also the man - Christian Grey - is the epitome of female fantasy Greek God/Rich & successful/Handsome/hard facade-soft hearted/Unattainable Superhuman lol. But yes, leaving these two things out, the plot is just hollow more a chain of incidents with nothing to look forward to except the sex and a predictable happy ending. It was clearly written for a crowd that enjoys erotic romance novels.

The book's erotic nature and perceived demographic of its fanbase as being composed largely of married women over thirty led to the book being dubbed "Mommy Porn" by some news agencies. The book has also been reportedly popular among teenage girls and college women. (Wikipedia)
