I noticed some people are commenting at how sad the ending is, I thought the same as well, until I realized there was a second part to the movie. The others who commented this must have not known or seen the second part of the movie. For those who only have seen the first part of the movie, watch the second part its worth it =]

This is definitely one of the best lesbian dramas that there is; I'm inspired to now read the book which has been sitting on my shelf for several years! The plot twists in this one were amazing and they kept me guessing throughout the film; I could never guess what was going to happen next. It was a truly beautiful film with a beautiful lesbian romance but had so much more besides. Definitely worth the watch!

Guarantee, you won't see the ending coming even when you think you do!. Great twist. 5/5

My word. What an inexpressibly beautiful story. I hate movies like this - that tear into your heart and get you wrapped up in the characters so that you care deeply what happens to them. (Much better to blow something up and get on with a beer, huh?) Yes, the twists were confounding, but the power of each of the characters (and so well depicted by the actors!) carried me beyond the bends. Wonderfully written, shot, portrayed, and presented. 5/5 only because I can't make it 10/5.

This movie was incredible, the story line had many twists and turns. The acting by Elaine Cassidy and Sally Hawkins was brilliant. The direction, settings and costumes were outstanding. Worth a watch... 9/10

It has so many surprises along the way. I highly recommend it. The depth of its story line is one that will stir the inner most emotions of love, and hate, with some very interesting twists.

there are so many things i could say about this film. #1 I love it it. Now i ramble.the movie set in the Victorian era as others have mentioned has so many seemingly despicable characters herein it makes ones head spin, you think day is night and night is day, but no one may be as they seem, yet i find enough heart in some that it may if not forgive some of the inconceivable things they do to find an end that may justify their means whatever they may be, at least explain what one so desperate to escape a poor sad kind of life the hard kind that that may feel like a prison in its self that may have made it easier to forgive themselves for doing such awful things to others, but may after the chips have fallen, find the means may not have in fact been worth the ends.in short its really awesome

Fantastic! Very well written and very well acted. I can see some confusion from the write ups......To clear it up.....The first part you need to click on whichever 'version' you choose. For the second part, simply click on 'part 2' next to the word 'version'...Simples! Enjoy 5/5 By the way, if its lesbian nudity your after, it is not within this film.

This really is a must-see, you can find Part 1 on stagevu and I agree with the other comments, you won't see the twist coming. Brilliant.

I first saw Tipping the Velvet which I loved so much I had to watch this one. I was not sorry. It's typically not my kind of series but I really enjoyed it. Sarah Waters is brilliant.
