Massimo Troisi,a poor fisherman, becomes a postman and has only one delivery each day to a famous poet,Pablo Neruda(Philippe Noiret),who has been exiled to a small Italian town because of his support for Communism.Soon the two men become great friends.Il Postino's triumph is in its rare combination of words and pictures, making it one of the most pleasing cinematographic experiences i have ever had.For once in my life, a movie has really captured what poetry is and how it is written.EXTRAORDINARY!

Classic. A gem. Mindblowing cinematography, artfully crafted story, intricate, poetic writing and character development. This movie is an unforgettable experience. One of the best films I've ever seen.

Did you guys know that he died 12 hours after the last filming of this movie and he had put off heart surgery to finish this movie. Just adds to the movie itself. Also He is one of only seven actors to be posthumously nominated for an acting Academy Award. Look it up very interesting story.
