This is one of the most elegantly crafted and powerful movies relating to the Holocaust.

yeah this movie definetly shows true colours of holocaust and nazism, but it was also "proud" moment for Slovakia finally after 1000 years of hungarian domination...the first Slovak state but under clerical-fascistic banner,Jews were deported for 500 reichs marks per person, this movie shows this dilema of this era/humanity vs evil vs nationalism

This film goes beyond it's subject and topics, and is of piquing human interest accessible to all.

Great film. The Czech films of the 60's are some of the best around. Many were nominated for, and plenty of them won, Oscars for best foreign film, best actor/actress in a foreign film, etc. This one, "The Shop on Main Street" is one of the very best of that era.
