All that hype down below.. is on point. I can not believe i waited so long to watch this movie. I had it on my to watch list for 2 weeks. Even if you are not a fan of martial arts movies you will find this movie to be badass. Nothing I can say that hasn't been said already.

Story of IP man...the man who taught Legendary Bruce Lee. Epic, One of the best martial Arts films ever made....the fighting scenes are spectacular. Movie has everything, action, adventure, love, sorrow, redemption...all squeezed between the greatest Martial Arts fights ever filmed. WATCH NOW....because you're missing a top 5 movie OF ALL TIME.

If you liked the style and tone of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, then there's no reason you shouldn't like Ip Man. Like Rob Cohen's movie, director Wilson Yip takes a few liberties with actual historic fact to make for a more entertaining and poignant film, but the action is AWESOME (choreographed by the legendary Samo Hung), and Donnie Yen (Shanghai Knights) is nothing short of spectacular; not only for his physical skills, but for his Humphrey Bogart-like presence. In a way, its a spin-off/ prequel to The Bruce Lee Story, since it dramatizes the hardships his early Wing Chun teacher faced during the Japanese Occupation during World War II (mostly fictionalized). The end titles give the impression that the Japanese surrendered as a result of Chinese Kung Fu, rather than American intervention, but I don't mind. Its designed to get people interested and fill Chinese hearts with pride. In that sense, its no different than U-571 or Red Dawn here in the states, and say what you will about the story, at the end of the day, its just a great kung fu movie with great acting, a solid story, and bone-breaking, over-the-top action. Great recommendation.

A triumph, a wonderful movie if you only watch one martial arts movie, see this one about the courage of the human spirit. Yes it does have outstanding fight scenes too. 9/10 <:>

Based on a true story, and so great. IP Man is by far my all time favorite Martial Arts movies. I had put this movie off for the longest time not being a huge fan of this genre, but I am glad that I watched it when I did. If you are like me, putting it off I encourage you to try to look past it, see the story for what it is, and try to enjoy! A MUST WATCH MOVIE.

Ip Man is a true Legend

This movie's great - a little propaganda heavy, but great. You people need to understand, however, that it is NOT based on a true story. Yes, the Japanese occupied China and committed atrocities - worse than anything shown in this movie. Yes, Yip Man lived through it. But he lived through it in hiding. None of the events depicted in this movie are based on a shred of reality. Don't let that ruin it for you, though. Great fight scenes and a surprisingly nice story.

Best martial arts fight scenes I've ever seen. Donnie Yen makes this story spectacular, and it's even more amazing that it's based on a true story! 10/10 in its category.
