This one is often overlooked in Anderson's filmography, but personally this is right up there with the rest of his masterpieces in it's own distinct way. A wildly entertaining, spell-binding, 90's gem.

8.7/10 the dialogue between samuel L and the older gentleman was very tarantinoesque. Was i the only one that got that vibe?

Well done. John reilly was in lot of good movies in the past but most people nowadays only know him from his role in step brothers. He was good in his serious roles too, i thought he was a riot in boogie nights.

Good story 8.5/10...I loved the cast and it didn't need to be fast paced or constant action because it was just interesting!

Excellent movie. Excellent actors. I like the calm flow of the movie. Philip Baker Hall's Sidney kept me riveted from the first scene to the last.

This movie is also called 'Hard Eight' quite confusing. Casino's, crime, Samuel L Jackson what more do you want? Cool flick 7.5/10

This was P.T. Anderson's first movie. He had to fight to get the movie mad that he shot. It actually did well at Cannes. The studio wanted to call the movie "Hard Eight" Paul Thomas wanted "Sydney" the studio got its way. Jack Mullet or something said Jason Robards played "Syndey" that is false. It is actually Phillip Baker Hall as you can see in the credits. It's been a while since I've seen this movie and my opinion stayed the same good acting but the story fails to take off, and it drags on. 2/5

For some reason the site really wants to take away credit from the great Jason Robards (who actually plays the title character "Sydney"). Absolutely brilliant - but then again, what else can you expect from P.T. Anderson

@ hotlewa But if you look at the IMDb page, you'll see that underneath Hard Eight (1996) in a really small, light font it reads, "Sydney (original title)"
