One of the best and most favorite movies I've ever had the chance to watch. I haven't seen the movie on here but I've seen it more than a few times! Romantic, heart-wrenching, not to gory, and wonderfully made movie with great acting.

My biggest problem with this movie is that it touts itself as an accurate adaptation of the novel (to the point of adding "Mary Shelley's" to the title), but an accurate adaptation it is not. It's not even a function of cutting out or simplifying certain events because of time constraints. There are places where it actually ADDS events or side-stories that were never mentioned in the novel, or just changes things entirely for no apparent reason. And is it just me, or did they make the pseudo-incestual relationship between Victor and Elizabeth WAY creepier than it needed to be? I know they're not siblings by blood, but the film repeatedly draws attention to the fact that they grew up as brother and sister at the most awkward times. Like right before they start making out. Wtf. One thing they did do right was the scene where Frankenstein brings the creature to life. That was actually pretty epic. In my opinion, this movie delivers that single scene better than any other film adaptation, and even though it's only a couple minutes long, I guess if you're going to get one thing right in a Frankenstein movie, it should be that one. De Niro's performance as the Creature is also excellent. Long story short, this film definitely has its moments, and it's worth watching, especially if you're into the whole Frankenstein/Prometheus/hubris thing. It's not without its flaws, but for the most part, it's pretty well-done. It gets a little silly and cheesy at times, but I think that's forgivable given the subject matter. Just don't go into it expecting a word-for-word adaptation of the novel like I did, because that's one thing it really doesn't deliver.

As far as I can tell, each of these 9 links is to a remake of this film with Parker Posey in it, NOT the 'original' Kenneth Branaugh version. The Branaugh version is indeed a superb adaptation, and I hope that soon these erroneous links will be removed and correct ones will replace them.

It misses out on the crucial symbolism that the novel heavily addressed. Frankenstein's monster was not evil, he was a deprived newborn burdened with seclusion, loneliness and self hate. He longed for approval and acceptance into a society that sadly could never see past his physical deformity. As for this film, it works as a loosely based story and I enjoyed it, however it perhaps shouldn't have Mary Shelley's name in the title.

Kenneth Branagh's take on the famous story, Is an all star cast. Staying fairly close to the book. Good performances from Branagh and Bonham Carter - But it is Frankenstein its a weird story - * * *

the best remake of frankenstein ever made. the display of raw passion by branagh is breathtaking. he runs the gamut of emotions from discovery to dispair with an intensity which has never been matched. he is utterly mesmerizing. i give this movie 3 thumbs up!

I always thought Frankenstein's creature was one terrifying bastard. But now having grown up I no longer have that problem:L 4.1/10 Okay this movie is a total bore, yes Robert De Niro was good as the monster but the movie was so slow and really crappy. I'm a huge De Niro fan but c'mon who likes this film its total trash. Yeah it has a creepy atmosphere but that's nothing this movie failed to keep my interest but I left it one until the ending...I cant use the word boring more than enough:/ I'm sorry I didn't like it at all, De Niro's character in Cape Fear was better than this one. This is the only Frankenstein movie I have seen well apart from Van Helsing:L I dont think I'll be looking anymore into this story thank you very much.
