Some could say this is the typical WW2 Propaganda movie, but many of the incidents pictured in the movie really happened, like the pictures taken of Mount Fuji which USS Trigger did or the Appendectomy abord an submarine which was first performed by Pharmacist Mate First Class Wheeler B. Lipes aboard USS Seadragon, 11 September 1942. Sadly, his patient Gunner Mate 3/c Darrel Dean Rector later was KIA when USS Tang was lost on October 24, 1944. An Appendectomy was also performed aboard USS Sabalo and USS Silversides. Every surgery was performed by enlisted Pharmacist Mate First Class because there were no Doctors aboard USN Submarines in WW2. A year after the movie was released USS Barb under Command of Eugene Fluckey (MoH, 4x Navy Cross) landed a shore party which destroyed a Japanese train. This was the sole landing by U.S. military forces on the Japanese home islands during World War II. Well worth a watch 5/5.
