I had never read the book so I had nothing to base it upon; with that being said the movie was actually like "reading a good book". I really enjoyed this movie. Many of my favorite actors are in it as well as many cameos. I loved the cinematography, and the feel of the movie. A nice family movie as well if you have children. 4/5

Script followed *The City of Ember* by Jeanne Duprau quite nicely. Great cast and direction. Would recommend this to anyone searching for a 'feel good' movie. 4.8/5

Good movie for kids. I think for adults there are some plausibility failures but it's still well-made and entertaining.

Entertaining movie with solving puzzles and great cast of actors, would have liked it to have had more explanation of why they were in the situation, but it was a good movie. I rate this 3/5. Watch and see what you think, it is worth it.

It was okay for a one time watch. And I will say this, original idea and great acting. It just wasn't able to keep my full attention for some reason.

i dug it, i liked it very much actually, we have our own taste, this would fit into mine, what i got from the movie, was that no matter the situation man will always have the thirst, that curiosity, and the will to act upon the great unknown. I am a CONTHEORIST so here are a couple things my observant mind picked up on....did anyone else notice the freemason vestments for the mayors? or was that just me? I also noticed the corruption of the mayor, shows very much how even starting fresh those tendencies still reside in man and are a natural part of a society....that said, REVOLUTION is also a natural part of a society. I also noticed when they made it outside, they looked down and saw the city of ember for a few seconds you can see an eye out of the city and they oval opening they were looking down from. This was also interesting for me because i also believe in the "Hollow Earth Theory" which this was just one of those movies for me. They appear to be a watered down society of us "the builders" "Stone Masons" were also "builders", i say that because its like a cargo culture that we left behind, its a kin well for me and if u believe the AA theory that we, our civilization is indeed a watered down version of the original civilizations i make this point because people usually think we went from dumb to smart, from not technically advanced at all to the atomic age, but if you research the theory there is much to prove that our ancestors had this knowledge already and was left and entrusted to them by "the gods" i believe they were just an advanced civilization that like this movie, they left us behind to flourish on Earth...."For The Good Of All Mankind" solid 10/10 enjoy :)

they made us read the book in grade 7 which was back in 1996/1997ish and the book was AWESOME, I finally got to the movie here. They tried to cram everything into one movie, for what the movie is worth they tried and compared to the book the movie (DUH) not as great but they still did a very good job there times when I was like REALLY that's how they decided to portray some of the characters the movie, but that being said the story was still very entertaining nonetheless and the acting was also very good but since I have read the book and if I had to compare the movie to the book I would have to give the movie a 4/5, without comparing it to the book the movie holds up on its own even more so and without comparing it I would give it a 4.8/5, the movie could have been WAY better but they still did a great job though.

If you like anything by Terry Gilliam (or, to a lesser extent, Tim Burton) you will like this film. 4/5.

Follows the book pretty well. Started off slow but it turned out to be a cute family film, worth at least a one time watch ~ 4/5

This was entertaining, although it was a little light on the backstory, which would have improved the film. I suppose they figure you have read the books. It was fun to see Bill Murray and Toby Jones as flawed and selfish politicians and Martin Landau in an interesting supportive role. Kids were well-cast and did a good job. High CGI and production quality. Great film for families to watch together. Note to some viewers: this is NOT a Tim Burton film. The director is Gil Kenan.

The young leads are both very engaging, the set design and art direction are excellent and the whole affair is kinda suspenseful. The myriad big-name character actors are slightly distracting, particularly Bill Murray and Tim Robbins, but all turn in OK performances. I think some of the critics were a little turned off, frankly, because the movie did so very poorly at the box-office. As the years go by, I am betting that this little movie holds up a lot better than some of 2008's big hits.

I found this horrible, and disappointing compared to the book.
