The Prince and the Showgirl: When Grandduke Charles, the prince-regent of Carpatha, a fictitious Balkan country which could start a European war by switching alliances, visits London for the coronation of the new British king in 1911, and spends his one evening off at the Coconut Girl club, the reputed stickler for protocol is so charmed by a clumsy American understudy that he orders his British attaché to invite her to the embassy for a private supper. Being overlooked and understanding German, she learns of the repressive attitude of the regent and the plans of his reformist, pro-German minor son, king Nicholas, to take over power by surprise, but doesn't dodge and tries to reconcile father and son. The queen-dowager decides to make her lady-in-waiting for the coronation day, so she stays in the picture to everyone else's surprise.

This was really cute. I love Marilyn Monroe, she is so great! It could be a little boring at some parts, but it is worth seeing. I thought the storyline was fine.

The only movie that ever brought Sir Lawrence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe together. The new movie 'My Week With Marilyn' is set on what Marilyn was going through off camera when she was acting in this movie.

I watched this a couple of nights ago. It was surprising to see Marilyn being actually pretty good at acting, I only knew of her as a playboy bunny, sex symbol. So I didn't really know she was in acting. Laurence Olivier's acting was good, wasn't very fond of the accent but nothing on his delivery or anything, I just don't like the accent to begin with. I found the plot to be a little too long, I think some scenes could have been cut out, or at-least shorten. My favorite part of the movie, probably had to be after Olivier and Marilyn kiss and the during next day, his son is talking to that servant guy telling him how his father was being affectionate toward him when they were alone, and then they join Olivier and Olivier wants his son to kiss him goodbye, his son doesn't want too and Olivier yells for him to "come give me a kiss." It was the funniest part in the movie to me. Overall I'll give the movie 3 1/2 stars.
