My growing up buddy were 10 years old when this movie came to town in 1957. We hiked into town which was about 3 miles for the Saturday matinee. we each had a dollar in our pocket. The movie was fifty cent, popcorn was fifteen cents and a soft drink was a dime. the theatre was full of kids. many were older than us. We were glued to our seats from start to finish. We couldn't stop talking about it on the way home. There were so many unanswered question but from then on I knew I was hooked on science fiction. Buck Rogers took second place from then on. Those in school who saw were also talking about it. some went to see it again but we didn't have the money. I have watched this movie many times over the years and it still holds my attention. I am even more amazed now on the level of quality in the movie and Robby the robot is still a great character even by today's standard because they gave him a character of his own. I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I have. I think even your children or grandchildren would love it.

Anne Frances/ Altaira was a Babe in this. The robot was cool and iconic. All around an enjoyable sci fi 50s film. Very Influential, and awesome set design.

been watching this since i was a child in the early 60s. creeps me out more than most current sci-fi or horror made today. in case anyone's interested; i read that the id's roar is a recorded elephant's trumpet, slowed down and re-recorded backwards, and the creature is hand-drawn graphics.

Just now discovered this, decided to watch on a whim - glad I did! I have the impression this was a major inspiration to Star Trek.

Awesome sci-fi film, special effects are so far ahead of its time. Lots of sci-fi film makers have been influenced by this. Love the scene when the creature is approaching the perimeter getting closer and closer, the crew register it but cant see it, very reminiscent of the scene in Aliens when the space marines are registering the aliens inside the perimeter but cant see them, cameron must have got the idea for the scene from forbidden planet. one of my favorite early sic-fi's, 10/10

What most people seem to be missing is that EVERY Start Trek device was used in this movie: from transporters to force fields, tractor beams, robots and even a Canadian captain!

I fully agree with "Frightnight's" comment below. This is one of the best classic sci-fi films out there. Loosely based on Shakespeare's play "The Tempest," this movie is one of a few that helped move science fiction out of the fringe and into serious consideration. This movie inspired many modern classics such as "Alien." Think of this as a cross between a "lost outpost" movie and a monster movie. The special effects were cutting edge for the time, and you even get the first appearance of Robbie the Robot! I hope you love it as much as I do. 5 out of 5 stars.
