Surviving Progress: Humanity's ascent is often measured by the speed of progress. But what if progress is actually spiraling us downwards, towards collapse? Ronald Wright, whose best-seller, A Short History Of Progress inspired SURVIVING PROGRESS, shows how past civilizations were destroyed by "progress traps" - alluring technologies and belief systems that serve immediate needs, but ransom the future. As pressure on the world's resources accelerates and financial elites bankrupt nations, can our globally-entwined civilization escape a final, catastrophic progress trap? With potent images and illuminating insights from thinkers who have probed our genes, our brains, and our social behaviour, this requiem to progress-as-usual also poses a challenge: to prove that making apes smarter isn't an evolutionary dead-end.

Banks/greed will be the fall of man...aka Bankers =interest=poor staying poor=countries depleting there resources without thought to pay interest=global warming= flooding hurricanes etc =more deaths disease starvation etc..=rich people still don't give a damn=people waist and consume to much junk they don't need=need for more resources they don't have =more wars to obtain more resources"aka are 11 yr war in middle east' no womd"Cheney's getting rich off the war by the way corporate contacts feed our troops etc..= never ending circle of rich staying rich and the poor dying/starving to keep them rich....Romans did it were doing it...whats the answer ?? movie hints space exploration and genetics also using/consuming less ..at least that's what i took from it,i was half asleep by the way, pretty boring flick..needs a joke. Jews own 90% of the worlds Banks, maybe if someone could convince/force them to lower interest rates we could end the this 3000 yr cycle of madness ?or genetically alter the whole world until we have a sci fi horror flik happening...lol..more oil is not the answer.

Interesting look at how humanity needs to face up to our current problems; corporatism, consumerism and economic tom-foolery. Before we ruin things for ourselves. ****

Very interesting look, at how we come to be where we are now in the 21st century economically etc... and the lessons we need to learn, in order to sustain ourselves in this progressive world of our making, and to know the costs of having too much excess or without limits. It was an interesting look at where we have been, where we are now and where we hope to be in the future... but at what cost? I loved that it covered history, biology, technology, economics, ecology, sociology, anthropology, physics and of course politics, everything that goes into making the world that it is today, and trying to find solutions to what they called the "progress experiment" is it sustainable at this current rate for example? This was some seriously thought provoking stuff.

This movie was quite enlightening to the fact we all are aware of. The quote "I have been highjacked by our material culture" seemed quite fitting. Just like the Germans with the rise of the third Reich, most are too scared to move and too scared to stay...

She said humans tend to be good problem solvers when their back are up against the wall and to add to that its usually the solution they should have taken a long time ago that they end up choosing. So it will probably take our backs being up against a wall we built for us to do just that. Even though it would make more sense just to start now. But we wont lls
