This was a nice film; very good introductory film for a person of any race/ethnicity to learn about the struggles that DO exist in the lives of people of Africa and the diaspora. Hopefully, it will inspire people to learn more and become active. Very happy to see Molefi Kete Asante in the film as well. :)

@ Sgt. Maggot. Did you watch this documentary, because if you did and you still don't feel any compassion towards these human beings and the inhumanity which took place, I wonder where your heart is at because I'm not a Jew but I've watched the Holocaust numerous times and it deeply saddened me and brought tears to my eyes because it is a "normal human" reaction.

I could be a lot more sympathetic if black men didn't keep using their "need" to be protected from racism as an EXCUSE which explains why they get to keep being sexist pigs to black women. Black women experience a double burden -- racism AND sexism -- but black men don't seem to care much at all. So screw them, they're hypocrites.

People, do your research when presented with the 'facts' such as that chattel slavery did not exist in Africa before the arrival of Europeans. Slave trade was well alive and kicking before that; who built the great pyramids for example? Anyway, some interesting aspects did turn up. However, I didn't like the all too common theme of African communities to only seek external factors for their failings. I missed a balanced view that also examines what is going wrong WITHIN these communities rather than blaming everything on slavery.
